You’re not wrong, friend. There’s a long backstory as to why I left policework, and it involves testifying against other cops who tried to cover up an off-duty assault by another cop.

Fair.

What seems like a thousand years ago, I myself was a cop. If I had a district judge calling me a liar from the bench, I would have literally collapsed into myself in shame so quickly, it would have formed a black hole right there in the courtroom.

I’m a photojournalist, and was tackled by CBP agents at Broadview while covering protests last month, despite being very clearly identified as a member of the press.

I came face to face with Bovino, and reading this fills me with an incandescent rage; I never saw a single person be violent there.

What we're witnessing with #Melissa is ultra rare in the history of known hurricanes in the Atlantic. This level of sustained intensity and feasting on every joule of ocean heat content without any real disruption is incredible.

Not hyperbole: Jamaica is facing a generational catastrophic event.

In a sane world, you’re absolutely correct.

Given the administration’s attitude towards the courts… Well, I’m less than optimistic.

The gate closes, the agents retreat inside, and activists continue their vigil… And no one on either side knows how long this campaign of cleaving immigrant families apart will continue. (6/6)

The gate is finally opened, and after a final embrace, the man disappears. With the opacity of the immigration #detention and #deportation process, it’s unclear when he’ll be able to speak with his family again, where he will be taken, or even what country he may be deported to. (5/6)

It takes several minutes for agents to open the gate, with its heavy steel crossbars and four large padlocks giving the appearance of a medieval castle gate made to ward off invading armies, not a suburban facility that processes nonviolent #immigrants in 2025. (4/6)

Suddenly, more than a dozen heavily-armed agents appear at the facility’s fence line and on the roof, significantly outnumbering activists keeping watch.

The man and his family approach the fence, explaining that he wants to surrender. (3/6)

A small group of people appear on the street, stopping to embrace. There are tears, and sobbing; one of the men is apparently subject to a removal order, and wants to surrender himself to protect his family from a potential raid by ICE. (2/6)

It’s around 9:00 PM at the #ICE facility in the village of #Broadview.

It’s largely quiet. A handful of protesters are keeping watch outside the bulding’s hasty fortifications, periodically heckling agents walking in and out of the building. (1/6)

In theory, the Marshals are supposed to answer to the judicial branch, and enforce its orders independent of the executive… How that works out remains to be seen, unfortunately. We won’t know until someone is held in contempt and ordered jailed.

There are more judges than you think who still hold the idea of a fair and independent judiciary above all else, and are trying to do the right things.

Given the behavior of the regime, I’m not sure where the off-ramp is, but I’m trying to believe it’s still there somewhere.

The alternative… Sigh.

I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced war, or violence on a large scale.

I have, and I don’t want to “wrap up the pregame” before it’s played out.

I imagine that others who have feel the same.

I suppose because it seemed pretty unambiguous as written? Nobody, including the judiciary, was prepared for what’s happening right now, and they’re having to catch up.

Of course they are. And it’s fucking infuriating.

The judiciary honestly looks like the last line of defense before violent conflict right now, so I’m willing to give the process time to play out… And pray that justice, however slow it may be, is found.

As infuriating as it is, she has to remove all ambiguity from what’s being ordered, in order to be able to impose sanctions that will survive appeal.

She’s carefully articulating every detail because she knows that whatever the outcome, the entire record will be reviewed by the appeals court, and possibly SCOTUS.

If you talk to him like he’s 5, and have everything explicitly laid out in the record, there’s less room for them to maneuver later.

A DC Metro police officer looks on as residents protest the Trump administration’s takeover of portions of the district’s government.

Sources with MPD told me that officers received no briefing on how the new paradigm would affect operations prior to Trump’s announcement.
