15.06.2025 00:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I can't imagine that Trump supporters would have objected to a Democrat politician breaking rank to vote with Republicans. Apparently the suspect had a history of ties to the Democrats?
14.06.2025 20:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I guess one strong woman in office in Minnesota just got shot. So tragic.

26.04.2025 16:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The funny thing about this #vanpoli civic election is that no one has mentioned that classic civic issue, potholes.
They're bad right now, eh?
Including on bike routes.
Someone is letting road maintenance languish while money is being spent on something else.

I totally respect people's electoral choices & support them voting in whatever way allows them to sleep well at night.
I don't tend to unquestioningly do or say, or not say, what everyone else does. As such, people who want to vote for me are willing to look below the surface & see the unexpected.
Convoy energy returns to Vancouver! Canadian flags, honking... great to see people defending their country. I just hope their bank accounts don't get frozen.
01.04.2025 00:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Volunteers are such an important part of the elections information ecosystem. Mainstream media just seeks to manipulate; it's volunteers who really allow voters to learn who their candidates are. All the candidates have now responded to this challenging survey:

Even if it is not their own money that they put into the fare box, it is useful for them to learn to plan to pay for transportation as they use it."

Reading Sam Cooper's work puts a whole new spin on Vancouver city politics. And makes it all the more important for citizens to not be distracted by buzzwords and common talking points.

21.03.2025 05:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I feel as if the gaslighting nature of this section is set up by the title, conflating "safety" with "belonging."
Reality is, you can belong as much as you like, but that does not preclude you being the victim of crime. Fear of crime is a club we all belong to.
Fear of words, not so much.
It's hard to program for people whether they do or do not want to live next to their closest friends or kin.
This is why I feel that enhanced mobility within the city & environs is so important, including the flexibility & convenience of the personal car.
I think a lot of candidates don't feel anyone reads the replies (voters can remind them :-)). And some surveys of this nature are a form of entrapment, if the questions are ideologically balanced. This one was open-ended enough to really allow thoughtful replies.
14.03.2025 17:25 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is listed in the Vancouver Plan as one of the challenges that Vancouver faces. I'm not sure it captures all of what makes all Vancouverites feel similarly unsafe. No one, no matter what their race, occupation, or collegiality, feels safe with escalating levels of random criminal violence.

VPSN and other volunteers provide a great deal of the information flow in Vancouver civic elections, because we don't have a strictly local press, and I greatly appreciate their contribution.
All of us reeling under a deluge of immigration that does not need to happen, & even if it did, could be managed much, much better.
Canada is a big country. Coastal cities have limited capacity. #bcpoli s/b going to bat for #vanpoli, not enforcing density.

People cannot be expected to argue w a moving freight train. In effect, that's what the current zoning & permitting process at the city is.
Literally as they're being steamrolled, residents are supposed to be organizing AND objecting simultaneously.
It's not like we have a union.
In case anyone hasn't read the plans, dig in: vancouver.ca/home-propert...

In my opinion, these "plans" were an excess of jurisdiction by previous city councils, and a blanket pre-zoning is a similar act by city council of today.
Residents have no time to react to what is built before more is approved. dailyhive.com/vancouver/br...
This is a nice little overview of the people running for Vancouver city council in the April 5th by-election, though most of the independents, besides me, are not covered: www.thewestendjournal.ca/blog/2025/3/...
