Not that cold, but VERY VERY wet. I dream of the Lincoln Handicap....!

Cadence max is more significant when considering sprinters (who, with few exceptions, have to be able to turn over quickly) and cadence min for horses at >8f. I would look at both usually, excluding opening and final furlongs.

Hi there. I haven't done much on dirt but there is every reason to think the same principles apply. Striding slower conserves energy and increases likelihood of staying further.

Sire/damsire can moderate this, but usually to only a small degree (I'm unaware of striding signature of PJ and UMo)

It is good stuff, but the idea that America had β€œa monopoly on cool” is for the birds.

Well worth a gander.

I use geegeez to store my ratings and for informed snapshots precisely like those displayed here.

Something magnificent about Kemi Badenoch's self-confidence, and her claim that the Mandelson affair is entirely down to her asking questions at PMQs. Like a toddler who thinks their plastic steering wheel is controlling the car.

Those colour-coded FS%s are not too bad at all.

I am not following the jumps closely at present, and missed yesterday's racing altogether. Could someone tell me if it rained during the Newbury Saturday card, and, if so, roughly how much and when? TIA

The Integrity Gap: How We Built the Authoritarian Future We Fear Labour MP Clive Lewis argues that the collapse of public trust in Government is the product of corporate power being wired into the architecture of the state

Last year I wrote this for @bylinetimes.bsky.social:

The public see a political class whose proximity to wealth has eroded its independence, where talk of public service is an empty ritual. It's this culture that claimed Mandelson’s β€˜qualities’ outweighed the risks.

Peter Mandelson is telling the truth on one thing: the idea he was bought for a $4k β€œbursary” or a $75k gift is ridiculous

The real incentive was a post-government payday - one so big he *rejected* a $3–5m-a-year offer

And Epstein enabled that payday

Here’s the evidence. 🧡

A thrilling Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown earlier today, but what do we make of the proximity of Firefox, beaten under 14 lengths by Fact To File? 160ish-rated horse at the very most on other form.

I was going to research this area thoroughly this winter and possibly write something at length but life has got in the way. Maybe in the future.

These are a bit ancient history now, though most of the basic principles apply. Perhaps my biggest finding since is the influence of the sire, with, e.g., offspring of Dubawi staying further than predicted from their generally fast striding, and some other sires the opposite.
