Dmitri Mendeleev was born #OnThisDay in 1834. He was a Russian chemist and inventor who formulated the Periodic Law and created the earliest example of a periodic table. He was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in 1892, and won both our Davy and Copley Medals.

I am really proud to present “Plastic deformation as a phase transition: A combinatorial model of plastic flow in copper single crystals” (doi.org/10.1016/j.jm...), which was initially inspired by Prof Naimark's ideas and polytopal cell complexes but then leapt much further.

Just remembered my scientific farewell of the 2024 year - three published studies. While all three have a common "combinatorial" ground, I still think they could not be more different..
