In a backwards way I'm grateful for the emptiness of Lehman's vision - so much of the current poetry I love is a reaction against it and I find its politics more urgent & direct & personal & complex than mid-century & earlier American political poetry. _Bettering American Poetry_ was awesome.

Like so many in the poetry community, we were devastated to learn of Jenn Martelli's passing. Not only was Jenn a guest, she was a literary citizen we deeply respected and learned from, watching her cheer on and champion others as she wrote luminous, incisive, insightful poems that left us in awe.

Her legacy of an abiding love for poetry--and for poets--is one we'll long remember and do our best to honor. It's been a balm of sorts to see journals and poets share her poems these last couple of days. In that spirit, here's a video of Jenn reading her poem, Angels of Hanover Street.

Like so many in the poetry community, we were devastated to learn of Jenn Martelli's passing. Not only was Jenn a guest, she was a literary citizen we deeply respected and learned from, watching her cheer on and champion others as she wrote luminous, incisive, insightful poems that left us in awe.

I'm heartbroken that poet Jennifer Martelli has died. Her poem "Teeth" appeared in Issue 21 of @tahomareview.bsky.social - one of my first issues as editor. I fell in love with her poems and was lucky to become her friend. She was funny, brilliant, deeply generous, & kind. She will be very missed 🐈‍⬛💔

What an incredible line-up (and MFA program)!!!! Solstice is taking applications from poets, fiction writers (for young people or adults), creative nonfiction writers, and comics/graphic novel creators through 11/10 (for a winter/spring start).
