a close up of a plane 's propeller with the letter g on it Alt: The Rocketeer flies alongside an antique passenger plane. He salutes the passengers, inadvertently hitting the button on his glove that shuts down his engine

The Rocketeer is solidly in my top ten, and every time I rewatch it I wonder why it didn't (sorry) take off...

"The 13th Warrior"

It's Beowulf with Antonio Banderas playing the role of an exiled Arabian prince who teaches Vikings how to write and wash their hands while they teach him how to drink, fight and fall in love. Together they defeat the pagan forces of Grendel and save English civilization.

I keep thinking about this robot. Just accept it and hack the heck out of it. Turn the kids loose on it as soon as the rep leaves. Make it run Doom. That's the ultimate signal of human superiority over the machines: make'em emulate video games for us.

Sweeps are a waste of taxpayer money! The City of San Jose just wants to look like it's doing something to solve the problem. It's basically a glorified trash cleanup that in some ways makes the problem worse.

99% of the time when users ask AI how many letters are in "blueberry" they are asking about the letter 'r'. There is a double letter where you would not expect it. The other 1% of the time they ask about 'B' there are 2 of those by counting but going by the 99% answer there are also 2 unexpected b

That's how they stole the last election. If you were a D voter they told you everything was fine, Kamala was winning. If you were a R voter, you got mobilized. I guarantee there are far more dirty tricks played, and planned.

Only that last one, spaced out, has the 3 B's, gives me a clue, maybe ChatGPT is confusing the answer to your question "how many B's?" with "how many R's"?

Either way it's very untrustworthy and dumber than a cattle dog. I'd rather ask a dog!

I didn't catch in any prompts or responses the word ever being spelled incorrectly. I saw that it faked a "3" in the code output though, which is WILD to me as a programmer. I think I know what's up here though. πŸ€”

Arthur C. Clarke's third law of prediction is, famously,
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." The kind of technology Clarke had in mind was one that truly works, but in such a sophisticated way that it is entirely opaque to the ordinary people who use it. The optimistic reading is that Clarke pictured our descendants in the role of the makers of such technologies as people who actually understood it. But perhaps not.
Magical technologies work... mostly. When they fail and you ask for an explanation, they present you with a blank face. When you try to intervene to fix them, they offer you no purchase on their surface of smooth glass. Instead of controlling technology as a wise wizard might wield a staff, you are forced to fall back on magic's traditional social function-namely, the ritual performance of specific but obscurely relevant steps meant to compel the gods to do the thing you want. Yet the gods care nothing for ordinary people; their ways are mostly unfathomable, and our means of control over them are obscure and unreliable. Instead of elevating us to a world of magic, the world of artificial intelligence and machine learning reduces us to it. A final wrinkle is that, as it advances, this process tends to shrink and ultimately undermine the caste of priests. In simpler technological worlds, the gods may communicate more directly to supplicants. They speak cryptically, but the initiated understand what is being said. Beyond a certain point, though, there is both less room for understanding and fewer means of intervention. With few exceptions, technology's priesthood may find itself degraded to the unhappy state of the laity. It, too, must confront what it means to live in an age where a sufficiently advanced technology really has become indistinguishable from magic.

The last and most important skill we must acquire is how to write begging letters to an opaque machine.

This is the problem when you train AI on Internet forums, it learns to dig into your position and never back down, and also to be dumb as shit.

Today is the 47th anniversary of this clearly unimprovable photo, from a story so absurd that it shouldn’t be true, but is: the day a team of workers from British Waterways pulled the plug out of the Chesterfield Canal, and all the water emptied out

The CEO of a a multi-trillion dollar company went to the White House, openly handed the US president a gift made of gold, and his company got a special exemption to tariffs the president has illegally imposed.

Also, the Founders took bribery so seriously the Constitution bans it 3 separate times.

I just fixed a visual bug that only occurred if someone's PC has been left on for over 25 days. I saw it occur on a recent Stream!

It was because a DWORD from Windows was being typecast to a signed int in some underlying BlitzMax code.
