Mostly from people who realised it was a joke, I would presume. TYL is fairly well known for parodying American right wing ignorance.

I think you'll find that TYL is a parody account

I think at times a little of Scratch goes a long way. He recorded numerous killers but also cut some second division singers on average tunes where the mixing was samey

"Bad Ryan" was of course Rad Bryan. "Rock Children" rode the "Peenie Wallie"/"Duppy Conqueror" rhythm

I would rate him far higher as an engineer/mixer than Lee Perry. His ability to create innovative mixes wth the width and depth that allowed for additional overdubs was helped by his board having far more tracks than Scratch had at Black Ark, where the sound could be very predictable

I dug it out again today as promised. I still don't rate it. The covers of "Satta" and "DoR" still sound weak, and the mix of "Yim Mas Gan" isn't a patch on the 45 mix.

It's okay, with some decent songs and they sing well, but the style is just too uptown for my ears

"Reggae Magic" was recorded in Toronto with Carl Delaney but released on Studio One.

I don't rate his Canadian recordings at all, but I know some others do

I will need to revisit it. I have never rated it as a patch on the singles they put out on Clinch, and am not a fan of Clive Hunt's "uptown" production style, but I'm obviously missing something

In fairness to Neil, it can reasonably be argued that "Born For a Purpose" and "Pocket Money" were both better than "UTR", but he loses marks for failing to recognise the Soul Syndicate cut of "I'm Still I Love", which has been a popular rhthm for decades

47 years ago in a hotel room in Edinburgh, I was singing "Satan Side" with Chinna Smith and Dennis joined in to make it a three part. The recording is alas long since lost.

It's not always a great idea to trust sleeve credits, and the Trinity LP came out a couple of years after the rhythm was laid down
