The best home recording experience I've ever had was in 2008 when I installed a copy of WinXP with all the bloatware removed on a single-core 2003 Toshiba laptop turned on its side so it wouldn't overheat. My screen was a discarded jiffy lube touch screen console. I had zero latency and I miss it.

A light table and tracing is valid too. I used to do basement show flyers by tracing photos I put into a new image. It's super meditative to just space out and work on shading with a micron pen for a stretch. Just to get yourself started and get a few easy wins.

Start by copying. I used to do high detail copies of 90s comic covers as a kid and my rendering was TIGHT as a 9 year old.
... but the 90s was the era of Rob Liefeld, so my anatomy is trash. I can do feet and hands though!
