05.08.2025 19:52 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Texas Dems, at all levels, are pretty awesome - standing up to Trumpโs corruption, crushed NIMBYs in Houston then in Austin, and nearly solved the homelessness crisis in Houston in only 10 years
04.08.2025 03:56 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0However, integrating IaaS into a firm's production processes is probably a lot simpler (just leasing instead of owning!) than integrating deep learning, IT, or industrial robotics.
01.08.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Bar chart from Wiz showing that 80% of its consumers store over 80% of their data in a single cloud provider.
(However, according to data from cloud security firm Wiz, most firms tend to use a primary provider for most of their data) www.wiz.io/lp/state-of-...
01.08.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Plot showing IaaS adoption among a sample of French firms from 2017-2021, rising from 1.2% in 2017 to over 22% in 2021.
A counterpoint to the slow diffusion of technology narrative is the extremely fast growth of infrastructure as a service (IaaS). In my data on large French firms, I find usage increases from 1.2% in 2017 to 22.3% in 2021! And a large minority of firms adopt multiple providers.
01.08.2025 21:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0California's AB 130 caps HOA fines as $100 unless the violation impacts health or safety. Pretty cool to see!
01.08.2025 18:08 โ ๐ 424 ๐ 73 ๐ฌ 20 ๐ 5Any sources that are helpful at reducing reliance on any particular worldview?
31.07.2025 22:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If this is how LA officials respond to a handful of whiny homeowners, ask yourselves how they will respond to Trump
31.07.2025 18:46 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Don't eat pork, beef, chicken, or seafood! Stop funding torture.
30.07.2025 15:54 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I used to make something like this a lot: mcntyr.com/blog/peter-s...
25.07.2025 03:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Does this mean @columbiauniversity.bsky.social will have to teach A-One now?
25.07.2025 00:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I strongly suspect such arguments against open borders or upzoning will seem just as absurd in 20 or so years.
21.07.2025 01:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0To see this, between 1996 and 2012, the Libertarian Party supported same-sex marriage while the Democratic Party did not (books.google.com/books?id=KGQ...). With the benefit of hindsight, scorning this deregulation as a "right wing libertarian proposal" is absurd.
21.07.2025 01:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In a similar vein, a lot of left-NIMBYs will criticize upzoning because it's supported by libertarian think tanks. This is lazy reasoning.
21.07.2025 01:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0For example, in 2015, Bernie Sanders criticized open borders as a "Koch brothers proposal" (www.vox.com/2015/7/29/90...)
21.07.2025 01:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0One of the worst progressive arguments against a particular deregulation is that its supported by some major libertarian. I'm pretty confident that one can find a major libertarian in support of nearly *any* deregulation.
21.07.2025 01:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I know fish farming is quite horrific, and believe a large fraction of the industry's growth is from farmed fish (apnews.com/article/fish...). Less certain on all shellfish, but shrimp farming is also quite horrible: (80000hours.org/after-hours-...)
19.07.2025 19:15 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0(Cotton production is mostly fine, unless it comes from Turkmenistan or parts of Uzbekistan)
19.07.2025 19:05 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The increase in meat production and reduction in price largely come as the result of increased use of torture on factory farms.

16.07.2025 00:06 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I agree with the author's point that some LLM features are poorly integrated with existing software. That said, I've found Claude quite useful for relatively in-depth computing tasks (e.g. changing something in Terminal) that used to take a lot longer to solve via Google search
