Fun story. The Support team for the software company I work for implemented AI chat and AI phone line stuff. We've had it for ~6 mo's now. Executives requested managers find "positive customer reviews" of it. They couldn't. Every single customer comment is negative.

That's just... oof. And gets messy quick. Like, imagine genAI trained on the concept art drawn for a game. Then used to "bring to life" those 2D drawings and turn them into 3D models and textures that can be used in the game. Where's the line on reducing artist hours vs removing artists?

Unfortunately this isn't just the case in game dev. Every software company is using AI now. Game development is inherently a software company so it makes sense. Different kinds of AI are different though, so if they're using generative AI for art... (sigh) just ew.

Yeah. They're basically entirely different styles of game within the same world of lore. The slower paced and much harder classic RPG style of D1 and D2 were a real peak of their times. I do think at the time D3 came out, that style wouldn't have done as well.

I actually very much enjoy D3 but it's a very different style of game. It would've been better to have a new IP to keep people from hating it like this. The faster paced action-rpg style of D3 lets me hit flow-state better than most other games ever could.
