Embarrassed at how NHS treats trainees. Have trainee due to start GP training induction today. My colleague asked one week ago for reference. Funnily enough in July, she’s on leave & not replied. Poor trainee, through no fault of their own, not even allowed to start induction. Pitiful & infuriating

I often say it’s like doing an abdominal assessment and coming up with the diagnosis of tummy ache! 😣

Excellent NHS care, delivered at home.
We're expanding Hospital at Home to 2,000 beds by the end of 2026 - watch this to find out how it will help ease pressure on the NHS and cut waiting lists. 👇

Great to meet the lovely NHS staff at @nhsforthvalley.bsky.social who deliver the Hospital at Home service.
We’re expanding it to 2,000 beds across Scotland by the end of 2026 - meaning more patients treated at home, shorter waiting lists, and more space freed up in hospitals.

We are lucky- we have an ED consultant with us and he just phones people- they seem to have direct phones for SDEC etc which we don’t know about!

I would suggest using the SPOA team instead. We have a team of doctors and ACPs hanging out in ambulance offices pulling patients from the stack and offering alternatives to conveyance. Expert knowledge of community offers and non ED offers including urgent OPD/SDEC essential.

A stuffed stork with an arrow through its neck – it’s that very stork, now found in the zoological collection at the University of Rostock.
202 years ago today, this stork was shot in the village of Klütz in northern Germany. It already had a 30-inch arrow in its neck. The arrow was made of African wood, and this first ‘Pfeilstorch’ (‘arrow stork’) played a pivotal role in the understanding of bird migration.

Excellent review. I run a hospital at home service and we talk about this often. Sometimes the staff and patients/carers want to iv because it makes them feel they’re doing their best!

Virtual wards and hospital at home
Virtual wards aim to provide hospital level healthcare in patients' homes. What are the opportunities and risks for patients, carers and the NHS?
Excellent report on virtual wards and hospital at home just published. Nice to see @ukhahsoc.bsky.social members contributions. Also reference to @arc-gm.bsky.social @gerisoc.bsky.social publications.

No. But similar need in the community- eg district nurses still go out to give insulin. It’s a role for a joined up it system- if only such things existed! 😂

A review on Hospital at Home.
From my experience: Person-centered care drives satisfaction, familiar surroundings reduce delirium&other risk in seniors AND natural activity at home accelerates rehabilitation - partly by preventing deterioration in the first place.

Interesting slide on who is classified as “old” in Japan. Lots to say about this. But as it’s Friday afternoon, I’ll just say that I’m looking forward to super older adults appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe…
