And having been a month ago, it's too late to take the role uncredited since the damage has already been done. There is no reason at all for any of this to have happened: if everyone was mature, responsible, and communicative, none of this would've happened, and literally everything would be fine.

Have the maturity to handle it without basically shitting on your new coworker. Because he is, for all extent and purposes, a new coworker. And trust me, engaging with a person one on one, if any doubt of whether he's being "sincere" or not on not knowing is there, will easily help a person open up about said sincerity or lack thereof. For all we know, HYV posted a listing for wanting a voice actor in various regions, and he signed up for it and auditioned, and was then given the role. And that role just so happened to be replacing John. I highly doubt HYV will put "NEED TO REPLACE VA IN [GENSHIN IMPACT]" As the job title.
