This line needs to be shot into the sun.
It's used to obfuscate the reality that our roads are not safe and pretends that nothing can be done to stop the carnage. #roadsafety
#yegcc should send the admin back to study a reduction to fourplexes so we can watch NIMBYβs argue for a reduction to duplexes at the next public hearing
10.02.2026 18:49 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Kevin Taft is referencing the cruel game of musical chairs video and says it's disturbing that some councillors and housing advocacy groups have been spreading it.
BTW have you seen this video? π

βEveryone is upset about infill!β
By everyone we mean a fraction of people in the wealthiest neighbourhoods.
Left NIMBYs are so frustrating.
Someone on Reddit was trying to argue that we are not doing enough to solve the climate crisis but we canβt affect neighbourhood character.
This was after I said that I didnβt want to copy Vancouverβs housing market.
Picture of the Edmonton council chambers.
𧡠Good morning Edmonton. We're live from the council chambers where the Urban Planning Committee will debate reducing housing options.
There are 60 speakers registered so there's a high chance this becomes two days. We'll be live posting so follow along to see how it goes!
Banning throttles seems to be the easiest option. I donβt know if itβs possible to do that without killing a bunch of local bike shops and leaving responsible people stuck with expensive illegal bikes.
09.02.2026 16:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Alberta seems to follow American reactionary politics. E-bike bans seem like a logical next step.
I havenβt noticed a big issue in Edmonton but have come across a few. Youβll come across the odd one but Iβve never seen a big group. That seems to be the issue in other cities.
βEveryone drivesβ is still the standard response in Alberta.
07.02.2026 02:27 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It is crazy that our most accessible pool doesnβt have regular bus service
07.02.2026 00:03 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0#yeg now has $62M/yr of new revenue from mature neighbourhood infill compared to 2016. That's over $330M added to city coffers
All using the same roads, pipes, preserving farmland and enabling neighbourhood-level shops.
All of this is thanks to Edmonton's pioneering approach to urban redevelopment
Iβm part of this team. The Bissell centre is a great charity and especially needed right now.
06.02.2026 16:39 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We are losing a good one, Carne Asada was my fave local taco spot too. And I'm with Keaton, we have great local entrepreneurs and we would all benefit from better streets and sidewalks to support them.

Next week, City Council considers a motion to roll back 8-home builds that made 2025 a record year.

Edmonton coming in at #8 is pretty damn impressive! That's why I'm so confused why so many hate ETS. I adore the system here and compared to the HSR back in Hamilton, it's night and day. Just gotta keep expanding the system more and more π

People probably havenβt used transit in other cities or havenβt used the bus since high school.
05.02.2026 14:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had to close the βsafeβ road for their photo shoot too.
05.02.2026 04:43 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0People have no idea how much anything costs. Had to argue with someone the other day that no 40km of bike lanes do not cost the same to clear snow from as 12,000 km of roads.
I had to show them the Paquette website before theyβd believe me.
So frustrating that we built the arena and then have to negotiate for peanuts
05.02.2026 01:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Big ticketed events near LRT stations should just have a transit surcharge like at commonwealth. If rogers had a 1.50 surcharge it would raise so much money for transit (and itβs not like oilers fans couldnβt afford it).
05.02.2026 00:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When will governments learn that βI didnβt see themβ often means that the driver wasnβt looking for pedestrians/cyclists (or they were driving too fast for the conditions).
04.02.2026 23:52 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My crazy pie in the sky transit ask is for the mutart to strathern trip to be free. Make it act as a south of the river funicular!
04.02.2026 23:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβm assuming the newer high floor trains will be better. I thought the city was also looking to modernize the older trains to be more accessible for bikes.
Certain stations will probably always be a pain but the newer metro/capital stations work well.
Iβm really hoping that the valley line increases biking in the west end. Just being able to hop on a train vs using the rack should open up a huge amount of the city to the bike network.
04.02.2026 23:27 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Not having to worry about theft or maintenance would open up so many trips for so many people.
04.02.2026 23:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It really does seem like Edmonton made the worst choice on micro mobility share.
High cost and limited range just leads to anti social behaviour and a negative attitude towards scooters.
