Yesterday, I spoke at the Unite to Face Addiction rally, where I met a father and daughter who graduated from our IGNITE program together. Side by side, they worked to reclaim their lives and build a new future.

I do this for Michiganders like them.

Animal abuser registry proposed under new Michigan ballot initiative Protect MI Pet would establish a public criminal registry and close a legal loop that can keep some abused pets in shelter cages for years.

Our companions show us unconditional love. We need to show them the same courtesy.

I spearheaded an initiative called Protect MI Pet. If someone were convicted of animal abuse, they are added to a registry and lose their right to own another animal.

One of the pillars of my campaign is to protect, and that includes our four-legged friends.

Last weekend, I stopped in Utica for their Puppy Parade, which celebrated National Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month. At this parade, I met survivors like Gideon and Bindi.

The coalition we’re building is rooted in unity, listening, and delivering results for every corner of Michigan.

This afternoon, I drove down to Monroe to speak with their county Democratic chapter about my campaign for Governor.

Thanks for having me!

Michigan is looking for someone who is a fighter, one who won’t back down, and understands their needs.

My time in law enforcement has pushed me to be that leader. I’ve fought for my community, and now I’m ready to bring that passion to the rest of the state.

Efforts to overturn fundamental rights, silence classrooms, or control who gets to vote in fair elections will not protect democracy. That’s an attack.
 
I’m running to serve every person in Michigan, not just a party or an ideology.

In 2022, I held a polluter accountable for dumping oil into the Flint River. After everything our community’s been through they needed a voice and I stepped up.

The work doesn’t stop with one case. Let’s keep walking toward a cleaner, safer Michigan.

Happy Earth Day! Today has me reflecting on Michigan’s natural beauty and the importance of protecting it at all costs.

Protecting our people means we need to protect our planet. We need leaders who will show up, speak out, and act.

The statement reads: “Over the 32 years as a law enforcement officer, there were times I’ve disagreed with decisions of the Courts, both civil and criminal. However, it never crossed my mind to disobey the order or disregard a ruling. And if I had a solid argument, there’s an appeal process for that. As I write this, Abrego Garcia remains in an El Salvador prison instead of at home with his family in Maryland. Despite a 2019 Court ruling barring him from deportation and a unanimous SCOTUS ruling upholding the lower court. This is a huge red flag for all of us. Due process is a core value of America for a reason. Without it, the American justice system is in danger. Make no mistake, anyone who victimizes the innocent shall be dealt with. As Sheriff, I helped facilitate the deportation of two immigrants back to Honduras within 72 hours of their arrest in a human trafficking GHOST operation. I will continue to use every tool at my disposal as sheriff and hopefully soon as your Governor to protect you and your family. What’s happening to Mr. Garcia is not keeping us safe. We can’t sacrifice our constitutional rights when it conflicts with public safety. They have to work together. I began my career in law enforcement by raising my right hand and swearing to uphold the Constitution of the United States and any time that oath is threatened I refuse to remain silent.”

I started I.G.N.I.T.E. to give people real tools to rewrite their story, and Jelly Roll is a great example of what's possible when that happens.
