Rebecca Lobo and Ryan Ruocco's bickering-couple act is top-notch, there are times I legitimately forget they're both married to other people and not one another.

Crucially, it seems like if you THINK you’re really smart, you’re easier to scam -

which explains a lot about why so many high-faluting devs, engineers, and doctors, who have been praised for their intellect their entire lives, have become such productive marks for tech scams in crypto and AI.

Seriously, this is straight-up antivaxxer logic: "I haven't bothered to understand why this restriction on my behavior exists, I've just assumed that I know better than the people who do this stuff for a living, so fuck you you can't tell me what to do."

You know who doesn't care what ethical framework you find interesting? The person you kill because you decided pursuing an interesting ethical framework mattered more than not endangering others.

In the scenario you've invented, "be[ing] the one everyone is trying to pass" is a hazard that only exists because some people have chosen to engage in antisocial behavior *first*. The way to correct that hazard is for them to engage in pro-social behavior instead.

For you to unilaterally take it upon yourself to decide, on the spur of the moment, that it must definitely be the former and can't be the latter is purely antisocial behavior. It's the sort of shit that gets third parties killed.

There may be cases where the speed limit is set too low.

There also may be something that the people who set the speed limit know about that stretch of road that you don't!

So we should embrace Glonzoism? Because that's what entertaining voters' wildly wrong perceptions of immigration and crime would amount to in practice.

At some point the voters have to be willing to hear out that maybe the things they're worried are just made up.

Gitlab or running your own repository is always an option!

The irony of git, which was created by Linus Torvalds specifically for VCS for the Linux kernel, now being mostly associated with a Microsoft subsidiary is both thick and not inevitable.

I think it's understandable, but--and maybe this is just me--I associate "panic" with irrationality, and it's always better to stay calm and collected in the face of a crisis than to panic!

Panic is understandable but it's also Not Ideal or The Only Option!

There absolutely is! But no one's compelling you to violate the speed limit, that's a choice you make, so any hazards that result from you changing lanes to "avoid" them is a hazard you cause and you are responsible for preventing.

11.08.2025 17:35 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

If someone is where they are legally entitled to be, doing something they are legally entitled to do, they're not the ones at fault if an accident results because of your choice to do something you are not legally entitled to do.

Not that there isn't danger from people changing lanes!

11.08.2025 17:35 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

How are the ones being dangerous when *you're* the one choosing to ignore the established social standard for your own convenience?

If they're driving the speed limit, the only "hazard" they "pose" to you comes from you choosing to ignore the speed limit.

11.08.2025 17:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm not, top design speed is a very real thing that engineers design for.

Sounds like that could all be avoided if they just slowed down and followed the speed limit. I can't do anything about what others choose to do.

11.08.2025 17:14 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

How is it safer? The highway (curves, sight lines, etc.) are designed for, well, the designed speed limit.

The amount of energy that will be dissipated through your body in a collision is higher.

A collision is more likely because of lowered response time.

(3) the interstate or another grade-separated divided controlled-access highway is neither a parking lot nor a city street, the hazards you describe don't exist there

11.08.2025 16:20 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

(1) most cruise controls have a minimum speed below which they cannot work, and 7 mph is well below that

(2) you shouldn't be using cruise control in a parking lot, or on city streets, anyway, for that exact reason

No, there are not β€œrules of the road” that exceed the law. Drivers are *not* responsible for β€œstaying with the flow of traffic” when others are speeding. This is gaslighting and self-justification from people whose drivers ed instructors lied to them.
