"The problem of the lack of papyrus [after c.1000] forced a receptiveness to new forms of papal government which the high medieval 'reformers' were able to move into and exploit from about 1050"... Absolutely enthralling new article by @cjg70.bsky.social and Ben Savill (Open Access). #medievalsky

David Abulafia (1949-2026) Professor David Abulafia CBE has died. He was 76.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of my PhD supervisor at Cambridge Professor David Abulafia. A very talented historian as well as a great supervisor and mentor who gave me sound career advice when I needed it. May his memory be a blessing. www.cai.cam.ac.uk/news/david-a...

Sad news. While I disagreed with much of what he wrote in his later years, Fried was a true scholar and stylist, from whose work I always benefitted (esp when I disagreed with it).

Indeed, this is a major problem. But all articles of the Deutsches Archiv (and the older Neues Archiv) can be researched in our OPAC and we have a PDF of each article publicly available. As of now, the old "Archiv" (1819–1874) is still work in progress. (1/3)

Blog post image on 'Joining the Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society: a brief guide if you’re considering an application'.

Full abstract: "Fellowship is one of several ways to join and belong to the Royal Historical Society. Fellows are elected to this position by the Society in recognition of their work for the historical discipline and profession.

There are many different routes to Fellowship, just as there are different kinds of contributions and careers within the discipline of history.

Today’s RHS Fellows are history practitioners from a range of backgrounds (within and beyond higher education) who have contributed to historical understanding and knowledge through a body of work.

These contributions take many forms, from academic publications of different formats, to editorial and curatorial work, history programming and public history.

This post addresses common questions asked by those considering applying to join the Fellowship of the Royal Historical Society. If you are interested in making an application, we hope this helps."
