And this combustible mixture of ignorance and power, sooner or later, is going to blow up in our faces. Who is running the science and technology in a democracy if the people don't know anything about it?" "Science is more than a body of knowledge, it's a way of thinking. A way of skeptically interrogating the universe with a fine understanding of human fallibility. If we are not able to ask skeptical questions, to interrogate those who tell us that something is true, to be skeptical of those in authority, then we're up for grabs for the next charlatan, political or religious, who comes ambling along."
I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

Tweet by @lexbyanyname Text: for many disabled people, there comes a realization that you would be left during an emergency. fires, school shootings, pandemics, war...it's dehumanizing and terrifying, but it's based in reality. to see the events over the last month play out, to be able to witness the endless care of neighbors and healthcare professionals refusing to leave their most vulnerable members behind has healed something inside of me that i have carried for half of my life. these people aren't just heros- they're role models, they're the best society has to offer. Images: Two images of Palestinian men pushing people in their wheelchairs across the roads littered with debris.
As a disabled person living in the US, this tweet made me cry so much yesterday because it's so true. The individualistic societies we have in the west have cultivated this mindset where people do not care about anyone outside of their direct family units, especially disabled people.
