As someone who scrapes different govt sites a lot, I welcome this change to better handling of the legislation, including the fact that bills are now in PlainText !

Today is the first day I was able to test if #nzpt has started working again for tracking #nzpol statistics. As far as I can tell, all is working with the urgency tracker.
In the coming weeks, an election 2026 web app will launch with vote compass, party breakdowns etc.

I am sure it is a coincidence, however a recent change to the Parliament website has blocked the calls that tools like NZPT use to get the information from the website. Currently this means urgency will be weekly-updates as a result.

Yes, very interesting as that parliament were praised for not having any urgency in their first 90 (calendar) days. (Followed by a LOT of urgency)

The number I used was incorrect and the actual total bills for current parliament is 177, meaning percentage of bills is 58.76% 😬

A screenshot from an upcoming version of NZPT that shows a revised total of 177 bills considered by the current Parliament. With 104 being urgent, a percentage of 58.76% of all bills were urgent.

Finally found a way to accurately count the amount of Bills the current parliament has considered (as opposed to using other sources and estimating).
My estimates were too high, so update to NZPT soon with actual counts! #nzpol

original reply to the thread about sitting days, but *part of* the reason for the drastic decrease is because Urgency will extend a sitting day until all urgent matters are resolved, which may extend a sitting across 2 or more real days.

Yes that is correct, and calendar days is on the to-do list. Unfortunately it isn’t as easy to scrape

That’s up to interpretation, and I want the webtool to be more objective than subjective. However you can view the bills that were subjected to urgency on the site already. I have the bill data from the previous governments too, however have not displayed it yet (coming soon).

To be completely transparent, when the parliament goes into Urgency it will continue one sitting day across multiple days until “urgent” business is completed. This means there is less sitting days.

After a parliament term concludes, the official number of real days gets published.
