Read Arkady Martine's Rose/House novella today and GOD BOOKS ARE SO COOL. THEY'RE VERY GOOD. It was so good that I immediately hopped on pangobooks to see what kinda physical copy I could buy. (I might wait until the paperback comes out next year cause that cover is GORGEOUS)

my biggest pet peeve in reading is when an author clearly doesn't know what schizophrenia is and just uses it as a substitute for any general type of "crazy" like,,, words mean things! there's a reason schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder are specifically named things!

this month I'm:
- running a weekly writing workshop
- beta reading my friends 150k pirate epic fantasy book
- traveling for a week for work
- celebrating my gfs birthday
- making a revision plan for my novel

instead it's just like. sadly mid. I would've loved this more if we didn't get any of the other POV and just had the detective doing more insanely referential shit, it would've been really fun.

my girlfriend kept going "you hate this book!!" and I had to defend it by constantly referencing some of the really fun things it was doing with referentiality like this felt like it could've been such a cool graphic novel where the characters physically skipped pages and pulled up old info!

Picked up Fair Play by Louise Hegarty last night and finished it this morning and uh. I really wanted to like this book!! it had some really fun metatextual elements but the stream of consciousness chapters simply ruined it for me. could've been really fun, except it just wasn't. 1.5 stars.

Public Works is one of those areas that AI can actually help & there are a bunch of great uses! There are cities using AI cams attached to their fleet to do road assessments 24/7 and make replacing them & reworking roads easier. There's use cases here, but not for generative AI LLMs

I'm not actually sure that's what these folks are trying to get at? I think a lot comes from a kneejerk reaction to fandom as a whole. I see way more "oh but what if X character was ace" from ppl within fandom than I do from the ppl going "not all relationships have to be romantic!!" outside fandom

samira/abbott really snuck up on me in those last 4 episodes!! I don't really get mel/langdon, but I usually don't get compelled by straight ships anyway so honestly pitt having one that I like is a shock

people on this site are always walking into the freak convention & being annoyed when people are freaks like,,, I am aware of the online space I am in. I'm trying to have a dialogue with other people in fan spaces, not the guy who just wandered into the freak convention loudly exclaiming "WEIRD!!"

also this is a personal preference but I also exclude crossovers and include completed fics only (they're additional buttons below the exclusion filters). all of this I usually just go from a ship tag I like and then use in tag filters to do. 🫡 there's good stuff out there, but it's hard to find

my genuine tips:
- kudos are a bullshit metric, ur much better off filtering by specific tags + pairings & sorting by bookmarks or comments
- excluding truly so many tags (+ muting authors I don't like!)
- find an author you like & snoop on their bookmarks
- setting a lower limit for word count!

We already use robots for that! Many cities use robots to do inspections. They feed that info to an analytical AI (not a LLM gen ai model) & use that to predict where they need to work next based on usage data. we already fascinating real life applications of the tech but it's not in LLM's
