I have a friend living under autocracy.

They told me first and finally:

Act out and speak up while you still can.

The longer we indulge our paralysis, the harder resistance gets.

They want to terrify, demoralize, and overwhelm us.

Do Not Let Them.

Shoving a friend to the ground is the right thing to do when they're seconds from being splattered by an oncoming train.

They act like they are unaffected.

They are affected.

Fear of slipping re-election chances is about the only thing that motivates many of these people.

Remember: they have to win their primary too, even if their general election is "safe" (and Iowa's recent upset was deeply troubling to many).

This sucks, it's bad, and grieving, feeling outrage, etc. is normal, and we should seek support from community.

But the heroes from previous generations acknowledged those feelings in themselves and then got up and did that day's work.
