Great to be at @nationalarchives.gov.uk.web.brid.gy today talking about my research into the commemoration and care of war dead buried in the United Kingdom. It was wonderful to speak to the teams working with service records day to day, and share insights about how these records are vital resources

Two war graves marked with private memorials. They have a kerb around the grave, and one has a cross (presumably previously upright but later placed recumbent).
Four war graves, three of which have private memorials that take various forms. This includes two with kerbs, two with cruciform structures marking the grave and one with a shield like structure. The fourth one has a standard Commission headstone.
A wonderful Bank Holiday weekend spent exploring our local area, including a visit to the Euston Estate. In the churchyard, I was fascinated by the fact that all the war graves were buried in a cemetery particular section of the site. Iβm hoping to find out more, and see if this was intentional!

Megan is holding a hardback book with a red ribbon bookmark. The book sleeve has a cream background with black writing, saying βThe Sunday Times Bestseller Terry Deary, Author of the Horrible Histories [in red writing] series, A History of Britain in Ten Enemies.β Interspersed with the title are various metal helmets, including Roman up to twentieth century German
One of my goals for this year is to read more books, including history books that arenβt for work reasons. I saw this in the local bookshop, and as someone who fell in love with history due to βHorrible Historiesβ I couldnβt resist. So much nostalgia, and I learned a lot!

Wicker chairs made of a light wood sit next to a landscape of Jerusalem
An information panel which reads: Pair of armchairs English Satinwood, about 1800 Bequeathed by Lady Henriques, in memory of her son, Philip Brydges Henriques, who maticulated from New College and was killed in the First World War, 1953.
The chairs within the context of the landscape of Jerusalem
Recently I was able to visit the Ashmoleum Museum where I was tasked with with finding an object to talk about over lunch.
The chairs were donated by Lady Henriques for her son to memorialise him. Iβve visited his grave many times, and next time I visit Iβll be sure to remember this connection.
