And to top it off, it seems to bind to those antibodies in APS differently after being cleaved by plasmin. We're really proud to have been so comprehensive in the study, but there is still so much to understand about this molecule!

B2GPI also behaves very differently after being cleaved by plasmin, a lot of literature exists showing the changes but we dont really have a specific reason why it changes its behaviour. This paper suggests its because it forms a new physical structure, it looks different so it behaves differently

Why is this important? Well B2GPI is the main autoantigen for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). Patients with APS attack B2GPI, that changes its function and makes clots happen. The clots are eventually broken down by plasmin in a normal fashion. So we know plasmin and B2GPI are close to eachother
