I know that the point is to make all of our worlds and our worldviews smaller, and it’s infuriating to watch it working.

I would not be as strong of a writer or thinker without the wide array of humanities courses I took in college because I loved expanding my worldview and I wanted to learn as much as I possibly could. I think about a specific philosophy and a women’s lit class I took at IU at least once a week.

I don’t have anything smart to add to the chorus of smart things being said.

It’s just heartbreaking to watch my alma mater - that I chose because it was so strong in the Humanities - be forced to destroy the thing that makes it special.

I’ve always wanted to do this too! If you need some ideas relating to comedy, we can chat.

It was fun—I got to live out my hosting dreams and the students got really into it. We got to have a low stakes review of important concepts, and many still studied because they got competitive about it. 10/10 will do again.

One of my classes ends with a group project instead of a final exam, but I still wanted an activity in which we reviewed material from the semester.

So, we had a “trivia night” with 4 rounds of themed questions and the winning team got to drop a low or missing hw assignment from the semester.

Final update on my tiny comedy class—they requested a joke writing workshop, so we spent a few class periods learning about writing stand-up sets and then refining them. For our final class, I hosted an “open mic” and everyone ate snacks and performed their material.

Great way to end the semester!

I’ve been a VAP at three different schools over the last 6 years. I’m happy but also tired and also nervous.

The state of higher ed is a complete disaster right now, so it’s truly the perfect time to finally have converted from VAP to Assistant Professor (starting this fall).
