Every "assault weapons ban" is really just about banning things that make guns look scarier. This gun is semiautomatic and shoots the same ammo as an AR-15 (from the same magazine although that's not in this photo) but it's not what most people think of as an "assault rifle".

Treating "gun crime" as a cohesive thing, mashing terrorism in with robbing convenience stores (unless it's at knifepoint then it's a completely different crime?), would be like treating the OKC bombing as basically the same as smuggling fireworks over state lines since both are "explosives crime"

The *public mass shooting* (what ppl think when they hear "mass shooting") is effectively a terrorist attack, like the OKC bombing, which we're not allowed to notice b/c the govt's image of "terrorist" is Muslim and usually foreign, not home-grown neo-nazi that are actually behind almost all of them

Given how many different sources count that differently ("mass shooting"'s most common definition is "a shooting in which at least four people were injured or killed not counting the perpetrator") that's not a particularly useful statistic. It conflates two very different kinds of crimes.
