Human gut strains of Desulfovibrio piger exhibit spontaneous induction of multiple prophages | Applied and Environmental Microbiology Gastrointestinal health has a significant impact on quality of life, and increasing profiling of the gut microbiome is identifying key players involved in disease states. However, evidence of the asso...

๐Ÿฆ  We showed that Desulfovibrio piger โ€” a common gut bacterium linked to both healthy and inflamed guts โ€” carries several โ€œsleepingโ€ viruses (prophages) that can wake up and release on their own.
Phages may be influencing gut microbial balance in ways we donโ€™t understand yet. doi.org/10.1128/aem....

Genome sequence of Eubacterium callanderi AM6, isolated from a Parkinsonโ€™s disease patient | Microbiology Resource Announcements Eubacterium callanderi is a non-motile, gram-positive, anaerobic gut bacterium that produces short-chain fatty acids, supporting gut health and potentially benefiting conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and metabolic syndromes (1โ€“3). Parkinsonโ€™s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor dysfunction, dopamine loss, and potential gut-brain axis involvement. Studying Eubacterium callanderi from PD patients may reveal its role in gut-brain interactions, neuroinflammation, and potential as a biomarker or therapeutic target. There is limited research on Eubacterium callanderi isolated from patients with PD. Here, we report the genome sequence of Eubacterium callanderi strain AM6, isolated from the fecal sample of a PD patient.

New Paper Alert!

We report the genome sequence of Eubacterium callanderi AM6, isolated from a Parkinsonโ€™s disease patient.

This adds to our understanding of gut microbiota in neurodegenerative diseases
