I participated in a Renée Good memorial poetry reading this evening (it was terrifying, but also so wonderful to see how many people showed up, and to hear the other amazing poets). Here's the poem I wrote for it:

LITTOL PIAMNO MAN

It always feels like all the wrong people die, but I think it’s because there are far more beloved people than there are bastards.

This is not some big complex problem that requires expertise to get right. If ICE is killing people, it’s from a lack of morality, not a lack of knowledge.

Fun fact: Your local bookstore is doing more to protect you and your neighbors than Amazon is.

If you're considering signing a graphic novel contract,

look at the advance the publisher is offering and subtract 15% for your agent (if you have one) and then 30% for taxes,

and then divide by the 5-7 years it might take you to finish the book,

and then decide if the money is worth it.

Time to dust off some books and refresh my memory for those pretending America wasn't always like this.

Genuinely the only thing keeping me going—but it really is keeping me going—is how good it is to see people link arms and push for this to end.

I cannot stop thinking about how much love people can have for their neighbors, and how much work and money is poured into breaking that love apart.

Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.
