I’m Mithgond, a huge Tolkien fan who focuses on economics, geography, and other obscure subjects especially concerning the imagination of the reader and incorporation of their own insights.

There are always so many facets to discussions of him and race, but I think his exploration of the concept of the Other and particularly his conclusions that Samwise drew as he looked upon the fallen Southron show where his heart lie—the scene makes me reconsider everything else in the text!

In everything I have read, we don’t have conclusive evidence that any specific language influenced its creation, however there are theories ranging from it being derived from multiple languages to it being reminiscent of an ancient Mesopotamian language Tolkien may have been aware of.

Random late-night hater thoughts, #Tolkien content edition: I am tired of reading and hearing about the same ten things. It’s like people just read -about- Tolkien instead of -reading- Tolkien. I want to talk about Beregond. I want to see a video about the Lossoth. Let’s go! Read more! #luinellë

Happy International Women’s Day! I posted on TikTok about Emeldir, the little-discussed heroine from the Silmarillion. While she may be given the epithet “the Manhearted,” her contribution exemplifies the crucial bravery of women in the works of #Tolkien. #luinellë

I love seeing diversity in fantasy stories, but please stop only depicting light-skinned Black people as "good" and dark-skinned Black people as "bad". It's regressive and not doing what you think it's doing.

Why does #Tolkien call the granary in the Shire “the Grange,” but the ones in the Pelennor “garners?” Personally I attribute this to different languages of the “source texts”—i.e. the information from Gondor would have more loanwords—but perhaps there is another difference? #luinellë

They were either gonna be apologists or just own him as a hard-to-sympathize-with character and I am glad they left it there.

I always said I was no good at #science, but here at work I developed a hypothesis and tested it in order to eliminate it as a possibility.

I really liked this (except like one little part) and I am a certified hater! It’s really enjoyable on multiple levels.

Hot take but clearly Haleth only became a unisex name because she was so badass people undescended from the Haladin thousands of years later named their sons after her in the hopes they would be strong. #tolkien #luinellë

Hot take but a Steward of Gondor naming his child Denethor (the 1st Age king of the Laiquendi) is like the Emperor of Japan naming his son after Æthelred the Unready. #tolkien #luinellë

Everyone wants someone else to foot the bill. It’s really simple, you don’t even have to care about innocent Ukrainian civilians (or Russian ones for that matter): if you want the most dangerous powerful country to keep destroying its own military, you have to keep helping the country it’s invading.

Seeing IG accounts with names like “Silmarillion fans” and all they post is LotR content makes me want to make an account that solely posts arithmetic-based memes from The Nature of Middle-earth and call it “LotR movie fans.” #luinellë #tolkien

I couldn’t believe I never remembered it, it’s right there in the book! And Gandalf says that the beacons of the NORTH hadn’t been lit in many years… I wonder how recently those of the south had?

There was another set of beacon-hills in #Gondor leading along the south side of the White Mountains to Belfalas, where the Prince of Dol Amroth and his powerful swan-knights and army could be called upon. #luinellë #tolkien
