Book nerd & crazy cat lady. Why yes, yes this has turned into a Tolkien/LOTR/ROP account. Just trying to survive both perimenopause and the downfall of American freedom. She/her

#TROPRewatch, Round 2, S1E1 A Shadow of the Past. Season 1 isn’t my favorite, but it is absolutely beautiful. And here comes Celebrimbor, all happy and un-seduced by Sauron! I’m going to miss him in Season 3. 💔

A lap full of cats and my next read: a voyage through philosophy and faith in Tolkien’s works. A holiday weekend well spent!

Three day weekend! Finally have some time to continue Reading All the #Tolkien Things. Despite my love of phonics and morphology (reading specialist), I’ve never really been interested in learning Quenya or Sindarin. This book may or may not change that. 😂

I’ve read LOTR dozens of times, but after having read all the legendarium this year (and watched RoP), reading through The Mirror of Galadriel just hits different now, in all the best ways. How Tolkien invented her on the spot yet poured so much history and lore into her & that chapter is amazing.❤️

Starting the new school year has seriously cut into my reading time. I’m re-reading LOTR for comfort.

I know this book has rave reviews, but I’m really finding it a slog to get through. I think Shippey’s writing style and organization of the text is just not my cup of tea. The information itself is fascinating, but the way it’s written keeps putting me to sleep. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Currently reading Vol 2 of Tolkien’s poems, alongside Carpenter’s biography (also glad that I recently read Tolkien’s Letters)—together they give a good timeline to understand where he was when and what he was writing at the time. Need to read Shippey’s Road to M-E next.

I have Beowulf in my TBR—definitely saving that for last haha! I started with The History of Middle-Earth series in January, and it’s been a great ride ever since. Thoroughly enjoying my Tolkien Era now that my kids are grown and I can buy stuff for me! 🥰

Text from The Fall of Númenor:
“But Ar-Pharazón was not yet deceived, and it came into his mind that, for the better keeping of Sauron and of his oaths of fealty, he should be brought to Númenor, there to dwell as a hostage for himself and all his servants in Middle-Earth. To this Sauron assented as one constrained, yet in his secret thought he received it gladly, for it chimed indeed with his desire. ‘This is a hard doom,’ said Sauron, ‘but great kings must have their will,’ and he submitted as one under compulsion, concealing his delight; for things had fallen out according to his design.”

You know you’ve watched #RingsofPower a million times when you read this in The Fall of Númenor and picture THAT smirk. Can’t wait to see this scene on screen!

Life goals: establish a sheep ranch with a group of other women, call it Emerië, and make men say, “I will go from this misenchanted isle of daydreams where women in their insolence would have men cringe.”

Three, but I’ve also read all of the History of Middle-Earth series, which I think counts as at least another seven times thanks to all the Silmarillion drafts in it! 🤣

Current reading: one Tolkien tale (that I picked because I love Túrin’s story so much) and two Tolkien-related books (that I picked because they are beautiful). A great mix of Tolkien’s love for stories and our love for Tolkien’s work. ❤️

So many, but I got lost in her painting Elrond and Arwen Depart the Feast at Rivendell in her book yesterday—the banners with the heraldry of Melian, Idril, and Lúthien in the background are perfect!

Finishing up the last of Tolkien’s three Great Tales. (Last because it’s my least favorite of the three, although I do appreciate the connection to Tolkien’s own love story). For me, Huan will always be the true hero of this story!
