I've been having a lot of fun animating a mini-series about this topic, and the main part is now out.

A vibrant yellow fungus with ruffled, wavy edges grows on the side of a fallen log in a wooded area. The fungus has a coral-like or lettuce-like appearance with multiple overlapping lobes in shades of golden yellow and pale orange. It appears to be a shelf or bracket fungus emerging from dark, weathered bark. The background shows a forest floor covered with fallen autumn leaves, with tree trunks visible among dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy above. The photograph is taken at ground level, creating an intimate perspective of this forest mushroom in its natural habitat.
A cluster of yellow-orange fungus growing vertically from a piece of decomposing wood on a forest floor. The fungus has delicate, ruffled petals or lobes that form a rosette-like structure, with colors ranging from pale yellow to peachy-orange, with some darker orange spots scattered throughout. The texture appears thin and wavy, almost translucent in places. The fungus emerges from dark, weathered gray wood that shows signs of advanced decay with peeling bark. The surrounding ground is covered with fallen autumn leaves in various shades of brown and tan. This overhead perspective shows the intricate layered structure of the fungus as it fans outward from its central attachment point on the log.
An overhead photograph of a cluster of pale orange to yellowish mushrooms growing on decaying wood. The mushrooms have fan-shaped or shelf-like caps with wavy, ruffled edges, arranged in overlapping tiers. The caps display radial ridges or gills running from the center outward, with coloring that ranges from cream to peachy-orange, and some darker spots or discoloration visible. The mushrooms are growing from weathered, grayish wood, surrounded by fallen leaves, plant debris, and scattered foliage on the forest floor.
A cluster of shelf fungi growing on decaying logs in a forest setting. The fungi display overlapping, wavy bracket-shaped caps with distinctive coloring: rich golden-yellow to orange-brown on top, transitioning to cream and pale yellow tones on the undersides. The layered, ruffled edges create a cascading effect as multiple fruiting bodies grow in tiers along the weathered, gray-brown wood. The fungi appear fresh and vibrant, with a slightly leathery texture visible in their rippled surfaces. In the background, green foliage and dark tree trunks create a dappled forest atmosphere, while fallen leaves and forest debris are scattered on the ground below. The composition captures the fungi at eye level, emphasizing their sculptural, shelf-like growth pattern characteristic of polypore mushrooms.

10.10.2025 15:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0i'm still not quite walking correctly, i have to constantly vary my foot strike (heel strike -> "normal" -> ball strike -> "normal" -> ...) or my left foot starts hurting. but now I know for sure it's a hip problem, so single-leg hip thrusts should help a lot
09.10.2025 20:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0my right side works fine, my left side does not. after a minute of jogging, my left foot (and only my left foot) hurts. i haven't been sedentary for 10 years, it's just that my right side has been compensating for the malfunctioning left side. probably going to take years to work out this imbalance
09.10.2025 20:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"maintain proper form for walking?" yeah well it turns out if you sit in front of a computer for 12 hours a day for 25 years it can really do a number on your body. i'm not even in good enough shape to *start* couch to 5k (because I can't walk correctly, let alone jog)
09.10.2025 20:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0i think i figured out how to walk properly again. it only took me 10 years to realize that I needed to buy zero drop shoes and then very slowly walk 2-3 miles every day for weeks, focusing on maintaining proper form. i hope that i can soon (next year?) run a mile for the first time in 16 years
09.10.2025 20:13 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0for dynamical systems, there probably isn't a better introduction. for control theory, you're going to need a different book

08.10.2025 22:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0this has been happening for years. I previously expected that the AI video people would eventually figure out how to fix this, but apparently the AI-generated VIMS sufferers are such a minority of the population that they're not trying to fix it (maybe not even aware of the problem)
08.10.2025 14:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0apparently one of my superpowers is that almost every AI-generated video gives me motion sickness. so I have a pretty reliable algorithm for detecting AI videos:
1. watch video
2. wait for nausea (it usually doesn't take long!)
