12.02.2026 18:57 โ ๐ 14988 ๐ 1180 ๐ฌ 1081 ๐ 286Sure, I'd agree that weights don't just completely disappear. I sometimes remember words to songs that I have not heard or thought about in literal decades.
But I also don't think it's realistic to think that LTP maintains exactly the same value over long time periods, even without interference.
LTP has varying levels of stability depending on the circuit. In many cases it decreases over time on the time scale of minutes hours or days, though measuring this in vivo is difficult because you need to maintain the same electrode placements over days.
12.02.2026 22:27 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0What about an engram that hasn't been activated in a decade. Would you also not expect drift there?
12.02.2026 19:40 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0You might also have weight decay or other forms of forgetting that happen passively, or do you suppose that the brain compensates for these so that non-learning drift is essentially 0?
I can see how a compass compensates for drift, because it's always being used, but...
Well, this is Bluesky. I appreciate you trying to inject nuance here.

Not that I'm against AI regulation, but for reasons other than doom.
So what do you mean by drift, specifically. Is it change without a direct environmental cause?

But I agree also that not everything is done from a primarily sinister perspective. I view these CEOs as basically random "takes" generators.

This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paulโan hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

Dear Ms. Wolfe, Petitioner-Appellee Rรผmeysa รztรผrk submits this Rule 28(j) letter to advise the Court that on January 29, 2026, the immigration court held that the Department of Homeland Security had not met its burden of proving removability, and the immigration court thereby terminated removal proceedings against Ms. รztรผrk.' This development underscores the dangers of the government's interpretation of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Under the government's view, it could punitively detain any noncitizen in retaliation for her speech for many months, so long as it simultaneously institutes removal proceedingsโno matter how unmeritoriousโall without any federal court review of the lawfulness of detention at any time. To be clear, the termination of Ms. รztรผrk's removal proceedings does not moot her habeas case. (By contrast, as Ms. รztรผrk has argued, this appeal is moot. Br. 18-20.) Without habeas jurisdiction and the bail order that is currently in place, any government appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals would again subject Ms. รztรผrk to re-detention. See 8 C.F.R. ยง 1003.6(a). For that reason, she continues to suffer the threat of continuing "now-or-never" First and Fifth Amendment harms. Br. in Opp. 55-57.
