Or a world of pain waiting for everyone if you are able to grant that thing legal rights by some process.

New parents have to watch videos and read pamphlets on baby shaking. They should also have to read this article (at least until we return to a more normal mode of health care)

US Attorney General Pam Bondi with Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt sitting on a stage talking. Eric Schmitt is wearing a navy suit with a white or light blue dress shirt, solid red tie, and black cowboy boots. His pants are very slim causing them to ride up high when he sits down and revealing a bit of leg betwen his pant hem and the tops of his cowboy boots.

Sure, I'd agree that weights don't just completely disappear. I sometimes remember words to songs that I have not heard or thought about in literal decades.

But I also don't think it's realistic to think that LTP maintains exactly the same value over long time periods, even without interference.

13.02.2026 00:00 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

LTP has varying levels of stability depending on the circuit. In many cases it decreases over time on the time scale of minutes hours or days, though measuring this in vivo is difficult because you need to maintain the same electrode placements over days.

What about an engram that hasn't been activated in a decade. Would you also not expect drift there?

12.02.2026 19:40 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 4    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

You might also have weight decay or other forms of forgetting that happen passively, or do you suppose that the brain compensates for these so that non-learning drift is essentially 0?

I can see how a compass compensates for drift, because it's always being used, but...

I also meant random with respect to what the boards of Anthropic/OpenAI would view as reasonable and wise things to say in a public interview. It's not strategic, neither in a good nor cynical sense.

Not that I'm against AI regulation, but for reasons other than doom.

So what do you mean by drift, specifically. Is it change without a direct environmental cause?

Just a comment from a parent that the internet no longer uses fried in reference to brains, it's now cooked.

But I agree also that not everything is done from a primarily sinister perspective. I view these CEOs as basically random "takes" generators.

Building compositional tasks with shared neural subspaces Nature - The brain can flexibly perform multiple tasks by compositionally combining task-relevant neural representations.

Thrilled that my paper is out in the @nature.com. We explored how the brain builds complex tasks by compositionally combining simpler sub-task representations. The brain flexibly performs multiple tasks by dynamically reusing neural subspaces for sensory inputs and motor actions

This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paulโ€”an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

You can joke about Pam Bondiโ€™s ridiculous unprofessionalism all you want, but Iโ€™m deeply shocked by it: She acts as if she fears absolutely no consequences, convinced that there will be no more political power transfers. โ€” This should shake everyone to their core.

I am disappointed in all of the celebrities that are endorsing gambling-on-your-phone services. It doesn't seem difficult to understand how these apps are literally destroying lives and families.

Hollywood is progressive in some ways but has huge blind spots.

Dear Ms. Wolfe,
Petitioner-Appellee Rรผmeysa ร–ztรผrk submits this Rule 28(j) letter to advise the Court that on January 29, 2026, the immigration court held that the Department of Homeland Security had not met its burden of proving removability, and the immigration court thereby terminated removal proceedings against Ms. ร–ztรผrk.' This development underscores the dangers of the government's interpretation of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Under the government's view, it could punitively detain any noncitizen in retaliation for her speech for many months, so long as it simultaneously institutes removal proceedingsโ€”no matter how unmeritoriousโ€”all without any federal court review of the lawfulness of detention at any time.
To be clear, the termination of Ms. ร–ztรผrk's removal proceedings does not moot her habeas case. (By contrast, as Ms. ร–ztรผrk has argued, this appeal is moot.
Br. 18-20.) Without habeas jurisdiction and the bail order that is currently in place, any government appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals would again subject Ms. ร–ztรผrk to re-detention. See 8 C.F.R. ยง 1003.6(a). For that reason, she continues to suffer the threat of continuing "now-or-never" First and Fifth Amendment harms.
Br. in Opp. 55-57.

Martinez is recounting her harrowing experience: after being shot by CBP agents, she drove a mile to the safety of an auto shop where she called 911, got treatment at a hospital for 7 bullet wounds, then was immediately taken into custody by federal agents.
