Vintage Crime - a review Rebecca Gibb’s entertaining look at dodgy wine down to the ages is now out in paperback.

25 Years of Infernal Weight: The Destructive Legacy of Electric Wizard's Dopethrone | The Quietus Dopethrone, now 25 years old, is the greatest album ever recorded, according to Dan Franklin, so great it destroyed Electric Wizard

Bought specifically now because this Quietus revisiting of Electric Wizard's "Dopethrone" called "Vænir" the nearest anyone has gotten to approximating the 'Wizard's tone. /17

Vænir, by Monolord 6 track album

And lastly it's "Vænir" by Monolord, a band I have seen a couple of times, and have a lot of their records, and generally see as the pinacle of reliable stoner doom. They are really very good at this. /16 monolord.bandcamp.com/album/v-nir

I had "Big Loada" and "Budakhan Mindphone" played at me a lot in my youth, and I think after seeing him on a lot of highbrow arts programmes slightly lost interest. I mean, I'm listening to a lot of Autechre these days, so maybe I have come around (TO MY PRETENTIOUS DESTINY) finally. /15

On a penultimate tip, we have what I think is considered a late period rebirth for Squarepusher, "Ultravisitor". /14 squarepusher.bandcamp.com/album/ultrav...

Nonagon Infinity, by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard 9 track album

Next up, part of my name-your-price exploration of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's catalogue, it's "Nonagon Infinity". Sorry, not formed an opinion of them yet. There's time. Well almost enough, given the size of their discography /13

Liminality / Dream State Return, by Elder 2 track album

Next up is Elder's
"Liminality / Dream State Return". Some odds and sods written between "Lore" and "Innate Passage" that fitted on neither. Wasn't giving off "run-and-get-the-LP" vibes /11 beholdtheelder.bandcamp.com/album/limina...

Song for JW, by The Holy Mountain Orchestra track by The Holy Mountain Orchestra

The next one is just a download, a single track tribute to John Whitson, who founded Holy Mountain records. I don't think I have any releases from that label, but I have a lot from their roster. RIP /10 theholymountainorchestra.bandcamp.com/track/song-f...

Todd might be the reason why you don't get a download when you buy the LP (OR IT MIGHT BE THE BAND), and begging Spotify for anything ill becomes him. But he brought this music into the world. So bravo. /9

Waveriders Unite | Facebook A place for Ripple Music and stoner rock fans to congregate, discuss the music both recorded and live as well as sharing their own bands. Share music...

But no, it's straight ahead stoner metal. By a band called Steak. I actually listened to this via Roon/Tidal after Todd Severin, who runs their label Ripple, posted on Waveriders how this record basically broke Spotify's tiny mind. www.facebook.com/groups/18912... /8

Acute Mania, by Steak 0 track album

It's "Acute Mania" by Steak. Who really deserve a better band name than that. Because they are really catchy, and a little bit post metal. And this album cover is amazing. /7 steakmusic.bandcamp.com/album/acute-...

Right! Downloads! Well not exactly. I also got a physical LP with no associated download through Bandcamp, for I think the first time ever. I did not even know that was possible. /6

For what it's worth I've also just caved in on the repress of Fu Manchu's "Godzilla’s/Eatin’ Dust +4", but that is a near perfect stoner metal album. While "Tron:Ares" is probably more diverting than essential. /5

Less explicably I bundled that with the exact same album on vinyl, despite my long-running disdain for superfan exploitation. Lets call it reparations for the bootleg long-sleeve I bought on Carnaby St in 1992 /4

Nine Inch Nails - Tron: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) View credits, reviews, tracks and shop for the 2025 CD release of "Tron: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)" on Discogs.

On the physical releases things have been quite restrained. Out of very long-standing loyalty I got Nine Inch Nails' "Tron: Ares" on CD, as I have for every album of theirs since "Pretty Hate Machine". www.discogs.com/release/3519... /3

Funny old month. Started out with a few reasonably priced ones on the wishlist, as well as the odd name-your-price, and things ended up going horribly out of control, like the Nixon White House or something /2

Swiss investor 'interested in acquiring Lindsey Oil Refinery' He has publicly confirmed his interest in making a 'serious offer' to secure the refinery

In terms of credibility and the Scunthorpe industrial economy, I'd put the "mystery Swiss investor" below Jingye Steel or Greybull Capital, but above that lad who worked in a chicken nugget factory and said he was signed to 50 Cent's label. www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/local-n...

I really enjoyed reading the @newyorker.com article about how ornery and idiosyncratic the fact-checking department is. And then I had a doomed and fruitless encounter with the subscriptions people and realised the whole place is still trapped in the roaring twenties.
