Does treating pain in the ER with opioids lead to addiction? NO, according to science In fact, the number of people who become addicted to opioids after being treated for pain is, once again, about 1 QUARTER of one percent. This is consistent across all large scale, recent studies

Recent study shows that opioids given in the ED for pain do NOT lead to addiction.

Addiction rate was about one quarter of 1%.

This is consistent with studies in chronic pain.

So why are we denying access to opioids for those who need them ?

When the quacker fails to work, people tend to blame themselves, or the quack even blames them to their face. They lose time, energy, money, hope, and even their lives.
