However in the last few years, YouTubers and podcasters started conflating who deserves to be on Mt. Rushmore with "top 4 personal favorites," which is another thing entirely. In any medium (not just wrestling), this conversation is supposed to be about innovators. I find it annoying everywhere ngl.

He was using them as examples of individuals who redefined what it means to be a pro wrestler. Now, Cena didn't mention Mt. Rushmore specifically, but the comparison was obvious and I suppose people just ran with it, which is honestly valid because it's a worthwhile discussion to have.

The earliest example I can think of is way back in 2010, when John Cena did some b-roll interviews for the Top 50 WWE Stars of All Time DVD. He cited Gorgeous George, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and Stone Cold Steve Austin as standouts in the history of wrestling when talking about the latter at #3.
