This is the type of law that gets passed when lawmakers value their own feelings (or appearance of feelings) over what actually keeps children safe. Disgusting.

Seriously tho, perpertrators have always used guilt and fear to keep their victim's silent. Now they can point to news articles as proof. "If you tell anyone, I'll *die*. You don't want me to get killed do you?"

This shit is performative and once again they ignore experts on how to help children.

A disturbingly low percentage of sexual predators ever get to the point where they are sentenced for their crimes. If politicians were serious about reducing abuse, they would tackle that problem instead of passing counterproductive capital punishment laws. This is conservative virtue signaling.

I am cool with all rapists dying. I am not cool with the state killing people.

I was one of those kids, too. Hence why I became someone wanting to prevent it for future children. But the state killing someone is not the most effective prevention method.

That can definitely be a reason why children don't report, but it's not the only one. Reasons why abuse survivors report or not report can be immensely complicated.

This was a concern cited by Justice Anthony Kennedy in Kennedy v Louisiana in 2008, which declared the death penalty in these cases unconstitutional. There’s also the fear this will make it more likely for a victim to be killed by their abuser.
