Covid exercise messaging left children stuck indoors, UK inquiry hears Children not allowed out partly because their exercise – playing – looked too much ‘like fun’, says campaigner

Good that the Covid Inquiry is hearing about play, that it’s not just a nice to have, that it’s essential to childhood, for fun, that it’s how children exercise, that public play is unevenly policed, and that children’s right to play should have been upheld in lockdown.

Just make ensure they have time, space and permission to play throughout their everyday lives. Oh, and enable them to walk and cycle for everyday journeys too.

I spend far too much time wondering about this too - especially when they do it on double yellows. Think it's a weird combination of protecting own vehicle, being 'considerate' to other drivers and saying, "I'm not really parking here, don't give me a ticket".

Ha I'm normally the grammar nazi but yes I was being sloppy and you're right.

This makes me sad every time I walk past. Local school playground - an increasingly precious safe, car-free space for children - is opened up at half-term and weekends for cars, but not for children to play. What message does this send? @playingout.bsky.social

Of course he is - which anyway is undermined by so much information being released. But the car wasn’t driving itself.

Unbelievable. Even when a car has been deliberately used as a weapon in a horrific violent crime with tens of victims (including children) *and* the perpetrator is named, the BBC can’t break the habit of using the passive tense.

That looks like two junctions near me *after* being redesigned (by council) for a safer route to school!! And without the zebra of course.
