Last year, I was invited to the Southwell Workhouse Bicentennial Event, and enjoyed seeing how staff and volunteers at this The National Trust site look after and present the workhouse to the public.

Built in the late-eighteenth century, the Cleveland Street Workhouse was used by the parish of St Paul in Covent Garden #London to house the poor.

Did this workhouse inspire the work of Charles Dickens? He lived on the same road in 1815-16 & 1828-31.
