Retired public servant in Oxford. We tend our allotment, listen to Bach. I make glass. Our civilisation is crashing. Curse those who opened the gates to Evil.
I like that man
14.02.2026 11:52 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Fine words but as so often with Starmer no substance. People don't realise how rundown UK armed forces are not just in numbers but in the latest arms, technology and logistics. We can't even defend these islands properly. But a sharp defeat might cure us of our pathological WW2 nostalgia
14.02.2026 11:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes. Satan is sitting in glory in the White House. Worshipped by many
14.02.2026 01:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Words fail me. To delight in hurting children. Who does that? It is....well, it's satanic. Satan is in the White House. Sitting in full view and worshipped by many.
14.02.2026 01:40 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Recently I talked about canvassing the Labour in the 1966 election. Everyone looked at me so oddly that I began to doubt myself whether it was possible. It seemed like boasting that one had met Queen Victoria
13.02.2026 21:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I know nothing of the allegations against Romeo but have two reasons for hoping she isn't successful. At MoJ she put effort into public self-promotion in a way that I didn't think is healthy in the civil service. She was also during the 2010s quite deeply involved in the damage done to the CJS
13.02.2026 20:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Absolutely
13.02.2026 18:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I don't think this kind of nonsense would have the slightest purchase on 95% of the UK population indeed would put them off voting Reform . We are not the United States. Reform would be much more lethal if it concentrated just on white nationalism plus destruction of the BBC etc
13.02.2026 18:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh yes of course I had no idea at all we're hungry is. FFS.
13.02.2026 17:37 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0God help any politician who doesn't actually like contemporary music, or football. He might as well be on the Epstein list
13.02.2026 17:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What I've come to realise is that Mahmoud, Lammy , Starmer arent on the side of civil libertiesb- they are natural authoritarians. They are not alternatives to Reform: they are the precursors of Reform.
13.02.2026 17:34 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0Erm... Are there any US aircraft carriers at all near Hungary right now?
13.02.2026 16:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This is indeed sad and sadder still because Starmer and his ministers are playing exactly the same game on fear of crime and I have the figures and quotes to prove it. Starmer is Reform-lite. Labour are not the alternative to Reform - they are the warm-up act
13.02.2026 15:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The real trouble is not one liar, either here or in the US, it's the millions who are so ready to believe such lies.
13.02.2026 15:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0May still be reversed on appeal....
13.02.2026 15:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An unprecedented spell of sustained growth so real income throws+huge improvement in most public services+unprecedented optimism and consensus globally+no toxic social media+Blair an ace communicator even though he had nothing to communicate.
13.02.2026 13:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Always good to know Simon Jenkins' views. He's so reliable, if he's against something, it's probably a good thing. If he's in favour it's almost certainly crap.
13.02.2026 12:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0IPSOS not showing this
13.02.2026 12:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They are appealing
13.02.2026 11:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If all States standardised equipment and shared procurement ( and ended corruption) that wd probably boost spending power by 20+% but that if course is unthinkable so let's just surrender
13.02.2026 11:14 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is indeed wonderful news. Although I do not put it past this grimly authoritarian government what sort of pre-reform warm-up act to go to appeal. After all it's only public money
13.02.2026 10:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I expect there's quite a menu of countries to be attacked. Happily for Trump there isn't a provision in the constitution that reserves to Congress the power to declare war
13.02.2026 09:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What's the betting that Trump abolishes the statistics
13.02.2026 09:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Supreme Court has lost all credibility and can never regain it. Which means the rule of law in America is finished
13.02.2026 09:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Easy to say our politics should be more inclusive less divisive more positive & inclusive & long-term thinking more radical in means & aims. But we'd have to become a very different sort of people. Can be done eg Germany 1945 but that was after catastrophic defeat. I doubt we're capable of change.
13.02.2026 09:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I quite agree. These journalists should learn not to criticise authority which is put there by God for our benefit
13.02.2026 08:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Discussions about discussions about discussions will probably be going well just when Reform take over
13.02.2026 08:54 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Erm...an old git on a swing with his arse on fire? Doesn t surprise me.
13.02.2026 08:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Out of 404 Labour MPs not one looks a credible Prime Minister, including the present occupant. Compare with Wilson's Cabinet: Dennis Healey, Roy Jenkins, Barbara Castle, Anthony Crossland, Richard Crossman, Jim Callaghan. Many wrote books about their political beliefs. Imagine Wes writing a book!
12.02.2026 20:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I say this with enormous sorrow. My brother is American. Two of my closest friends are American, good kind decent people whose agony is too painful to witness.
