Most biomedical research is done in mouse models 🐭 , which do not adequately capture unique aspects of human 👶🏾 brain development, disease, or response to treatment. Organoids provide a much-needed human laboratory model for this purpose.

These are the result of reprogramming human skin cells into stem cells and then into simple, 3D models of the human cerebellum. The image shows cross-sections of the organoids expressing signature proteins of cerebellar neurons. e.g., SOX2 for neural stem cells, KIRREL2 for Purkinje cells. /2

Classification of non-TCGA cancer samples to TCGA molecular subtypes using compact feature sets Ellrott et al. provide a means to assign patient samples from clinical trials and other cancer genome studies to published TCGA molecular subtypes. Applying machine learning to data from five different molecular platforms for 8,791 TCGA tumor samples, they contribute a public resource of 737 top classifier models, which can form the foundation for clinical assay development.

Back from an exciting few days at the #CSHL2024Brain meeting - current tech + potential for basic + translational applications is incredible. Great to share our ongoing 'omics work in pediatric hindbrain dev + medulloblastoma. Looking forward to validating biomarkers with Hs cerebellar organoids.
