Keaton in the early 1900s. Black and white photo. There is a man, apparently in his 30s. His hair is short, dark and straight. He is wearing a black suit, a black vest, a black bow tie and a white shirt with high collar. Both of his hands are inside the pockets of his clothing.

Joseph Hallie Keaton (July 6, 1867 – January 13, 1946) was an American vaudeville performer, eccentric dancer and silent film actor. He was the father of actor Buster Keaton and appeared with his son in several films.

A huge vintage 1960s 70s handmade fused art glass abstract modernist design tray/artwork by Israeli studio glass artist Arik Lenoy. A very large and quite stunning one of a kind artwork! Fused glass aka slumped glass is the same technique used by Michael and Frances Higgins in the US, and was quite popular with glass artists around the world in the midcentury. This artwork measures 17-5/8" square by 2-1/4" high at the rim, and it is quite heavy, too heavy for my scale. Unmarked, as is usually the case with this artist. It probably had a paper label at the beginning of its life, but that has long since been lost. Excellent vintage condition.

The photo is a detailed black and white photograph of the Whitby East Pier, a Grade II listed structure in Whitby.
It's captured from a side angle, showcasing its robust construction and extending out into the North Sea. The monochrome palette emphasises the textures and contrasts of the scene. The sky is filled with a dense, cloudy cover, creating a somber and dramatic atmosphere. The clouds are heavily textured, with darker, heavier formations in the upper parts of the frame, and a lighter, more ethereal quality nearer the horizon.
The pier itself is the central subject, a long structure composed of a large, heavy stone base, topped by a thinner, elevated walkway. The lower section is visibly weathered and stained by the sea, with a rough, mottled surface. This section sits low in the water, appearing to be built to withstand powerful currents and storms. The upper walkway is supported by a series of regularly spaced vertical columns, giving it a repeating, rhythmic pattern. The columns are connected by a white railing that forms a strong horizontal line across the image, drawing the eye towards the distant lighthouse.
A small, wooden-framed lighthouse stands at the end of the visible pier section, a notable landmark of the Whitby East Pier. The lighthouse is perched on a raised platform, with a beacon on top. The structure appears to be made of wood and metal, contrasting with the heavier stone of the pier base. Several small figures can be seen on the pier walkway, dressed in dark clothing. One figure appears to be sitting or crouching on the lower pier section, while others are standing along the railing, seemingly fishing. Their presence provides a sense of scale to the massive structure.
The overall impression is one of rugged natural beauty and the enduring strength of a man-made structure against the elements, a hallmark of Whitby’s maritime heritage.
