Asking for a friend... anyone ever seen nice high res versions of any of these photos of the large Jem'hadar fighter studio model from Star Trek Deep Space 9? This image is from a ~20 year old auction, but presumably they were not the only copies. @portalrealm.bsky.social
19.09.2025 16:12 โ ๐ 12 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 3 ๐ 0Wasn't the original plan for those things to come back later? Hence the last scene with the signal being sent out across the galaxy. But then they decided to do the Borg instead

14.09.2025 00:13 โ ๐ 301 ๐ 64 ๐ฌ 15 ๐ 2A 3D render of the Zerg Hydralisk from StarCraft on a gradient background. The Hydralisk is an odd alien with a stance somewhat like a displaying cobra, with a long slug-like tail, large belly scales, an oddly low Gigeresque ribcage, a muscular humanoid torso with large arms ending in scythe-like single claws, and a long neck covered in brown stripey triangular overhanging carapace, with a somewhat human skull-like shiny brown face with inner and outer mandibles with sharp teeth.

13.09.2025 15:57 โ ๐ 35 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0The Voyage Home lump? It matches up with the name painting scene, and is probably meant to be the cargo hatch that opens under water after the splash down. Beyond that I have no idea
13.09.2025 14:47 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0With the main modelling basically finished on the Bird of Prey, I turned attention to the landing gear. Refs for this are few and of poor quality, but I decided in advance I would only do it if I could find a way to make it work and fit inside the ship. So... here is Iteration #10!

For a Bird of Prey to represent HMS Bounty from The Voyage Home, you have to add this stupid extra thing to the bottom of the hull. It blocks the hatches the landing gear and access ramps come out from...
This was visible on every shot of the model in TVH. But thankfully never seen again! ๐๐
Using AI for concept art is like: โI want to come up with something no-one has ever seen before, so Iโm going to use this machine that can only regurgitate existing stuff after blending it into a lumpy paste.โ
23.08.2025 18:00 โ ๐ 447 ๐ 157 ๐ฌ 4 ๐ 1I suppose there's an outside chance they added them for the appearances in DS9, but that seems unlikely to me.
19.08.2025 18:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Still from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier showing the Klingon Bird of Prey. The scorching effect is still present at the rear of the wings and there are still no extra panels between the 'pyramid' and the raised ridge. This means they must have been added either for Star Trek 6 or Star Trek Generations. Do you know which??
...scorching effect that had been applied to rear of the ship for the final shots of ST3 and all of ST4 showing the damage done by the exploding Genesis planet. The scorching was still visible in ST5, and still no panels. So it must have been either for ST6 or Generations. 2/2

Does anyone know when the extra panels were added to the top of the wing, between the 'pyramid' and the raised ridge? I'm thinking maybe for Generations, but maybe it was earlier, when they were removing the.. 1/2 ๐งต

I think that's a good feature to show though. Maybe not ideal outside sickbay, but in general, great. With the shape of the hulls, it makes perfect sense for some deck height variation. Real ships often have weird features like this, half decks, hanging decks etc

The image shows a vast star field with a faint yellow-orange star, Betelgeuse, at its center. Two white segments radiate from it, converging toward a black box at the upper left. In the box, Betelgeuse appears as a bright orange, almost circular disk, next to its companion, a smaller, less well-defined, dark blue star located slightly to the lower left of Betelgeuse. The companion, detected with the 'Alopeke instrument on the Gemini North telescope, is a hot, young star. This discovery explains Betelgeuse's brightness variability every six years.
A ๐งต
For centuries, Betelgeuse, the iconic red supergiant in Orion, has fascinated astronomers with its changing brightness.
Why does its light vary over a ~6-year cycle?
Thanks to the Gemini North telescope, we now have an answer: Betelgeuse has a companion star!
