“The U.S. Supreme Court said that you could detain people based on their race, their accent, or the language they spoke … There is nothing to preclude ICE from doing that while you’re standing in line getting ready to cast a ballot,” Stacey Abrams tells Anne Applebaum.

I realise I'm just a freak, but living in a multicultural city is the best thing of all time, it's just the best possible human experience and i can not understand why anyone on earth would be like "weve got to destroy this"

A new theory explains why Trump keeps threatening global takeovers Neo-royalism challenges us to look beyond a century-old paradigm and see the hierarchical lens through which Trump justifies domination.

The world order as we’ve known for the last century is disappearing.

And in its place, a new order shaped by the private interests of individual men and their fiercest allies, not the interests, private or public, fair or foul, good or bad, of a nation.

Maybe Russia and China Should Sit This One Out Putin and Xi are just shocked, shocked by the American attack on Venezuela.

"The United States has now given Russia, China, and anyone else who wants to give it a try a road map for invading countries that displease them," argues Tom Nichols:

The funniest part is that the whole point of funding the crusades was to send your potential sources of domestic political instability (loud, violent lunatics) off on a mission where, worst case scenario, they were out of your hair for several years or, best case scenario, they died.

I keep saying this but no one is connecting the dots. The war is to satisfy legal preconditions for mass removal *domestically* of Latinos (i.e., suddenly a lot of people are going to be “Venezuelan” for purposes of removal). This is 100% Stephen Miller…oil claim is to make grandpa go along

Anarchism has some problems as a theoretical framework, but its basic formula of:

- no masters above
- no servants below
- chuck a bomb at the czar every once in a while

Almost never fails to be correct.

Rob Reiner was a mensch. In death, he showed us Trump’s a schmuck. The president's remarks about the murder of the filmmaker and his wife cast Trump as petty and callous.

Following the news of the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, on his flailing social media platform, Trump issued an ugly rant.

This foul and hate-driven conduct is nothing new. But his post about Rob suggests that he might be losing the ability to restrain himself.

There’s something doubly grating about the pious invocation of “Western civilization” by the sort of incurious dolt who wouldn’t know a Titian canvas, a Beethoven quartet, or a Socratic dialogue if whapped them upside the head.

Absolutely. Doing this remotely with drones or bombs is no different than pulling up in a boat and shooting them in the water. If this isn’t an illegal order, hard to imagine what could be.

Patriotism assumes that our globe is divided into little spots, each one surrounded by an iron gate. Those who have had the fortune of being born on some particular spot, consider themselves better, nobler, grander, more intelligent than the living beings inhabiting any other spot. It is, therefore, the duty of everyone living on that chosen spot to fight, kill, and die in the attempt to impose his superiority upon all the others.

In a way Trump and Mamdani are similar. They are both populists fighting against the elite, it's just who they see as "the elite" differs.

Mamdani sees the elite as the billionaires who control the economic, political, and social systems of society.

Trump sees the elite as people who read books.

Whether they are able to find any depends on how they were personally affected by 8 Dem senators, of which Fetterman was one, voting to reopen the government at the expense of millions”

Senate Democrats Just Made a Huge Mistake The shutdown was hurting Trump. Ending it helps him.

"Democrats could have held the line on the shutdown, and spent weeks watching Trump’s approval ratings fall," writes Jonathan Chait. Instead, he argues, they're making a mistake by giving in:

It never stopped being birtherism Donald Trump is repackaging a familiar smear against Zohran Mamdani.

Cuomo is far from the only politician to attack Mamdani in this fashion.
