04.02.2026 21:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0While we think of such accidents as tragic in our age, they werenβt unusual historically. I can think of a couple of examples from my own family tree where children died in similarly tragic circumstances.
03.02.2026 21:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Absolutely! And the way I research, I add a small number of people then spend a couple of weeks (or longer) adding lots of records. These days I have an Excel template that I work through methodically for a family group. And when the family had 14 children (like the current one) it takes time!
03.02.2026 21:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs definitely modelled on an Oxbridge college (take your pick) but it only dates back to the mid-19th century from memory.
03.02.2026 20:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Happy memories of visiting Hurstpierpoint a few years ago when my sonβs school played them at rugby. A sumptuous parentsβ tea was laid on after the match - in the quad, in the sunshine. (It was a September fixture, and the weather obliged.)
03.02.2026 20:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0What a fascinating story, Clare! Lovely that you now have Arthurβs clock; I imagine it must be very special to you.
03.02.2026 18:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The more I think about this, the more I realise how big an error it is. How could the Government of the day possibly organise a nationwide survey the same day war was declared? Itβs amazing that they could plan it in 4 weeks, but on the same day? Itβs nonsense!
03.02.2026 15:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A long post from Facebook outlining several generations of a family history which points towards possible royal connections in an unsubstantiated and unsourced manner.
Iβll take my time with this one β¦
02.02.2026 21:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt pay too much attention to #FamilyHistory posts on Facebook. But today I had one asking for information about a name that sounded familiar. Looking at my tree I see that the person in question is a 4x great aunt, and we therefore share 5x GGP. Unsure about the βroyalβ connection though!
02.02.2026 20:57 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Goodness! I wasnβt born in 1967 but I still remember the special treat of going to the newsagent (everything shop in our village) and buying a quarter of whichever sweets took my fancy. Lemon sherbets, cola cubesβ¦

02.02.2026 19:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I had one for my grandmother yesterday, relating to the 1939 Register. It says the Register was taken on 1 September, the same day that WW2 started. This is wrong; the Register was taken on 29 September. It misses out the ampersand of her address, Fox & Hounds Cottages. The rest is generic / dull.

Itβs because of a new cousin that Iβm researching this branch! π
01.02.2026 17:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sometimes, #FamilyHistory research can be slow. Iβm currently working through the 14 π± children of Mr Hβs 2x great-grandparents.

01.02.2026 11:48 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another will arrived this morning, for my 2x great-grandmother Susannah Brown (nee Powell). Itβs interesting in that there are several specific bequests to children, grandchildren and a niece: a silver watch, a gold brooch, a piano, chiffonier, writing desk β¦ She clearly lived comfortably.

31.01.2026 17:38 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This feature hasnβt arrived on my account yet. Reading your blog, it seems that the suggestions for further research are good ones, but they simply donβt relate to the records already attached to the particular ancestor. And this strikes me as not very intelligent at all.
