Spent the last week ploughing through all the Silent Witch novels that have been published in English thus far (including that one volume of the Barrier Mage prequel)

Need to find myself a new reading project now I'm out of that to read, though.

(Although I guess also in terms of mid-00s Sunrise giant robot shows, this probably also flew under the radar by not being one of the ones where every other episode ended on a mind-boggling cliffhanger or otherwise had something insane happening)

I somehow actually completely missed that ADP wasn't just a pure recap movie, though, although it's not like any of the subsequent Zegapain material got distribution in English until right now.

There's specific parts of SSSS Gridman which gave me real heavy Zegapain flashbacks.

Actual show is legit great, if very mid-2000s. All the art and promotion for it emphasizes the robot aspect, but that's not really the interesting part of it - it's really leaning into that whole post-Matrix "what if the world is a simulation" thing and really runs with it in fascinating directions.

Didn't really help that I'm pretty sure this was an extremely early HD production either, so DVD wasn't exactly the best way to be watching it anyway...

Zegapain was so late-era a Bandai Entertainment release in the US that the collected edition of the DVD release ended up getting axed, so kind of ended up flying under the radar a bit as one of those $40 for 4 episodes kinda shows.

Ah, I see @miketoole.com finally managed to convince Mr. Discotek to license at least one of the mech anime I'm sure he's asked for multiple times over the years.

The brand new feature film sequel from 2024 is coming soon!

In fact, it's going to be in the same set as Zegapain and Zegapain ADP when that comes out!

Oh, guess they're releasing that as well. Don't think there's been any subs of STA at all, so that's cool.

The listing on the website says "108 episodes and 14 which didn't broadcast on TV", so I'm thinking the 14 are probably just the OVA episodes from the previous releases.

Trying to figure out difficulty curve on a game project I'm working on, which involves having to replay all 115 maps and put a subjective difficulty rating against them so I can sort them into some kind of order.

Though the intention on this one is not to have linear stage progression anyway.

It's fine. I'd probably feel more strongly positive about it if I hadn't played it on Switch where it chugs horrifically. If you've played and liked a Suikoden game then you'll probably like it.

It's very mechanically rooted in Suikoden, though, and frequently not necessarily in the positive ways.

Kind of subtle touch, but they changed the colour outline on the subs for this weeks Turkey to a gray rather than black during the flashback to better suit the washed-out atmosphere.

I like that, and the shade used is still dark enough not to impact clarity.

The Old Ones must be stopped.

Playing it out as all those separate bubbles focusing on specific characters floating into screen, allowing them actually include the dialogue in a way that's possible to parse, before congealing into the full image of the party is a real act of brilliance, honestly.

For those who haven't read CITY, that whole party sequence at the end of this weeks episode plays out as four consecutive, intensely detailed double page spreads of the various character millings around. Been wondering how on earth they'd deal with that ever since the anime was announced.
