I am moving and want to move less books if at all possible...
Please get in touch if you are interested in the following titles (all prices include postage and I am open to offers)
Indeed...
20.07.2025 11:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0100% Context and association are critical. With early modern texts, there is the question of 'what is something', as word/phrase could apply to many types of issues. Need familiarity with historical terms, as modern ones not always helpful.
20.07.2025 10:57 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0the perennial question of how to do excellence with less and less...
19.07.2025 17:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0would also add that cutbacks in our unis mean that the numbers of allies in IT and libraries are dwindling-- too much stretched resource, no matter the goodwill. (No not all unis, but all too common.)
19.07.2025 16:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0hiring even student assistants is a distant dream for most UK institutions these days. Also I am at a uni where a digital history centre failed to take off for so many reasons-- so we are just patches of goodwill and vibes, but no money. Can't even get projects hosted on uni website!
19.07.2025 16:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0and care can in turn be weaponised to get more out of staff while giving them less of every support ('don't you care about your students'). The big question, perhaps, is how to build those communities of genuine care in adverse circumstances.
19.07.2025 16:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0exactly this. The fact that academia seems to be on fire in multiple countries all at once is deeply troubling here. It is extra hard to make time when everything is falling apart, yet that is precisely the moment when care is needed more than ever +
19.07.2025 16:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0and *time* is increasingly hard to find, even if people are flexible or willing to collaborate...
19.07.2025 16:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes. Very much so. Plus time (to learn new methods, to build the relationships, etc) and flexibility (to try new things, such as assignments and ways of working).
19.07.2025 15:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0group work is so valuable for this-- to see themselves within a community. (But needs a lot of support so they realise why it is valuable rather than worry about people not pulling their weight. )
19.07.2025 15:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Very true! You might find this DH project (Early Modern Recipes Online Collective) interesting-- community building, counteracting loss, taking care, and thinking of care. The project mirrors early modern recipe collection and draws on feminist pedagogy. earlymodernstudiesjournal.org/review_artic...
19.07.2025 15:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oooh! very intriguing.
18.07.2025 21:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0if this is the new criteria, I'm doomed as a short person...
18.07.2025 17:12 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0lovely, airy place though!
18.07.2025 15:06 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0π of course it would be Janey doing the haunting instead of another of the many people who lived and died in the house over the centuries. (rather like everyone who claims to be reincarnated was Cleopatra or some such famous person.)
