I've just found out that there's a similar film by Jean PainlevΓ©. In case you're not familiar with him, he was a filmmaker and photographer with a background in biology. He was specialized in underwater fauna and he has some experimental films related to that, which were the ones that I knew.

Contemporary media coverage of global warming stresses that time is running out. News reports feature doomsday countdowns that quantify how many years humans have left to reduce greenhouse gas emissions before climate change is irreversible; stark data visualizations track the precipitous decline of multiyear sea ice in the Arctic in the past decade. The imperative to communicate the urgency of climate mitigation is clear, and the Arctic
- a climate multiplier - has been central to this coverage. The language of finality or extinction characterizes the tone of contemporary reportage, couched in environmental grief or eco-melancholia. Climate activists have pushed back against such extinction or doomsday rhetoric on the logic that it discourages change: if annihilation is assured, there is neither time nor reason to act. Yet the ticking clock of popular environmental discourse serves to condense the long-term origins of climate change to its short-term threats. The focus of present-day climate action on the compressed timeline of the current crisis, in other words, can occlude earlier, more protracted or nonlinear timelines of polar climate knowledge and climate change. The temporal exigence of climate crisis is conditioned not just by geography but by cultural, political, and socioeconomic imperatives; what the settler colonial world experiences as present climate emergency, for example, is for Indigenous people only the most recent iteration on a continuum of extractive and genocidal destruction, as Kyle Whyte, Zoe Todd, and others have shown.'
