I saw someone call Ai a Thneed and I can't stop thinking about it. It's a PERFECT analogy. The Thneed was an all-purpose tool that didn't do anything really useful. It was a fad that did major damage to the environment to make the Onceler a billionare. It left no real lasting impact, only damage.

I'm now currently in the process of writing my second book! This will be more of an all-ages novel than a picture book. Can't say much except, similar to my first book, it's about a beast with a dream. Wish me luck.

Feeling experimental and inspired by classic cel animation, I recently took line art from my book and printed it on transparency film to paint my own cel! As a first attempt, I admit it's messy. But it still felt cool making something like this.

Generative Al is being marketed as a tool designed to reduce or eliminate the need for developed, cognitive skillsets. It uses the work of others to simulate human output, except that it lacks grasp of nuance, contains grievous errors, and ultimately serves the goal of human beings being neurologically weaker due to the promise of the machine being better equipped than the humans using it would ever exert the effort to be. The people that use generative Al for art have no interest in being an artist; they simply want product to consume and forget about when the next piece of product goes by their eyes. The people that use generative Al to make music have no interest in being a musician; they simply want a machine to make them something to listen to until they get bored and want the machine to make some other disposable slop for them to pass the time with. The people that use generative Al to write things for them have no interest in writing. The people that use generative Al to find factoids have no interest in actual facts. The people that use generative Al to socialize have no interest in actual socialization. In every case, they've handed over the cognitive load of developing a necessary, creative human skillset to a machine that promises to ease the sweat equity cost of struggle. Using generative Al is like asking a machine to lift weights on your behalf and then calling yourself a bodybuilder when it's done with the reps. You build nothing in terms of muscle, you are not stronger, you are not faster, you are not in better shape. You're just deluding yourself while experiencing a slow decline due to self-inflicted atrophy.

A Toto rod puppet I built for a kids' stage production of Wizard of Oz. Made using 3D printed parts I modeled in Blender, faux fur, elastic string, aluminum wire, and EVA foam.

I was recently commissioned to build a Toto puppet for a kids production of Wizard of Oz. It was quite a challenge, but I think it came out nicely. The head control rod has a trigger for the mouth and the body rod handle has a pull string for the tail.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of JAWS, the masterpiece that invented the summer blockbuster and made Steven Spielberg a household name!

Finally saw Sinners in 70mm IMAX yesterday and yeah, it's as good as everyone says it is. Damn good!

Also the theater was giving away these cool souvenir film strips for the movie.

Yeah, it's pretty surreal. I remember first discovering it to watch LEGO animations outside of Brickfilms and clips from various productions of Little Shop Of Horrors.

Yeah, I feel ya. Like I've said before, I don't play games enough to justify getting something that feels more like an investment than a fun pastime. My current Switch and small library of games (some of which I haven't even played yet) are all I need atm.

This is all fascinating. I had no idea Ryan Coogler negotiated a contract where he kept final cut, first-line profits, and the rights to SINNERS after 25 years. But the idea of studio execs FREAKING OUT about it ("What if EVERY in-demand creative wants rights over their own work?") is even better.
