โ๏ธAs summer rolls along, weโre revisiting some of our 2025 publications. We're covering a few pieces you may have missed, just in time to wrap up your summer reading.
First up: a look at Denmarkโs approach to district heating.
bit.ly/3GSJ4dv
Denmark's targeted policies and investments have delivered impressive results โ not only to advance district heating but also to help meet climate goals.

In times of labour shortage probably also not a great strategy...
31.07.2025 16:50 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The economic policy mix that worked well for Germany in the bygone era wont work today.
Brad's chart should give a flavour, of the limits of wage restraint. Dereg and squeezing workers ainโt gonna cut it.
So I hope the that there is an intellectual shift in Berlin alongside a policy one.

We need a lot of flex in our system. Industrial heat can make a big contribution through demand-side flex. How?
Policy fixes:
- Rebalance electricity and gas prices
- Modernize electricity prices and grid tariffs for flex.
- Flexible grid connections in exchange for discounts
2/3
Electro-thermal energy storage systems convert electricity to high temp. heat and store it in cheap media for later use, mainly in the form of hot water and steam.
Flexibility is the key advantage, filling the storage when prices are low and discharging during peak hours.

Around three-quarters of all industrial emissions in Europe come from process heat, which is almost entirely based on fossil fuels (only 3% electrified).
But a big opportunity, 60% of all processes could be electrified with commercially available technology
What is electro-thermal energy storage, and how does it support industrial decarbonisation? Short thread based on a briefing we published earlier this summer ๐งต

I normally post on climate science, which is my expertise.

HOT OFF THE PRESS: Industrial electrification is vital for net-zero, but lagging far behind.
While most of industrial process heat could be electrified with existing tech, progress has been minimal.

๐จNEW RELEASE๐จ on electrification of industrial heat.
@soxenaar.bsky.social & Elian Pusceddu explain why electro-thermal energy storage (ETES) could be a key solution for industrial electrification.
Hint: It can enable more flexible electricity demand and not interrupt heat supply.

How can we electrify industrial heat and at the same time unlock valuable flexibility for the grid? Electro-thermal energy storage (ETES) might just be the answer:

A good start to incentivise electrification! We should do this for households and other businesses as well.

* reduce dependence on imported gas
* achieve greater efficiency
* reduce carbon emissions and harmful air pollution

โTeslaโs driverless โrobotaxisโ could launch in Austin as soon as June 22. But a demo in Austin today showed a $TSLA, manually driven to test its Full Self-Driving system, failed to stop for a child-sized dummy at a school busโand hit it.โ
@cbsaustin @velez_tx
Demand creation is key, if we drive demand among industry and households to install electrified equipment (heatpumps, e-boilers, EV's, etc.), we support the clean tech sector in Europe. Example: new factory being build in Belgium for industrial heat pumps www.linkedin.com/posts/rossen...
11.06.2025 11:45 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Tax flaw blocks industrial electrification:
Electricity taxed/levied higher than fossil โ distorts costs.
High elec/gas ratio = slower adoption.
Fix:
โ
Spread levies on ALL energy
โ
Cut power taxes for heat electrification
โ
Fund via budgets
