Our vet, Judith, can be forgiven for thinking this jay had blood all over its feet - we did, too. But, as it transpired, his toes were covered in red paint. Don't ask us why, we have no idea๐คทโโ๏ธ.ย
We'll be keeping him in for monitoring and, hopefully, his release will be just around the corner๐ค.
Our first admit of the day, this poor feral pigeon.ย
Suffering canker, a common issue for pigeons, this adult found himself unable to take flight as a result.
Found near someoneโs car - cold, weak, and weighing just 180g๐ฃ, this hoglet was safely transferred to us via a vet, vet nurse, Kayleigh, got to work right away. Once warmed up, this little one perked right up, had some fluids, and he even started eating, albeit in the laziest way possible.
05.11.2025 18:02 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The weekend saw the arrival of three tiny hoglets, the result of their nest being disturbed. Tragically, during the disturbance one of the hoglets suffered a deep wound to its back from a garden fork, causing irreparable damage, and our vet team had no choice but to end it's suffering.
03.11.2025 18:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Cold, dehydrated, and very unwell - a worrying sign as the weather turns colder and natural food sources start to dwindle. The vet team are doing their best to warm this hedgehog up in an incubator and provide warmed fluids to help rehydrate and stabilise her.
02.11.2025 18:01 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Arriving in a poor state, this vixen was barely responsive, dehydrated, and showing signs of possible kidney failure. Her temperature was too low to read, and additionally she was suffering from mange and also had a dangerously low glucose level. All signs of being in a critical state.
01.11.2025 18:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0These two tiny nestling feral pigeons sadly got a trick instead of a treat this Halloween when their nest was disturbed.ย Luckily, the little ones were found with no injuries and clear signs that their devoted parents had been doing a wonderful job caring for them.
31.10.2025 18:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Transferred to us from a local vet practice after being found trapped in nylon netting, this female hedgehog has painful constriction injuries to the underneath of both her forelimbs, as a result๐.
The vet team carefully cleaned and treated the injuries, before giving the hog some time to recover.
With petechiae, dehydration, an abscess, and being barely responsive, this vixen had a very guarded prognosis and whilst certainly not out of the woods, it is this kind of incredible wild resilience that we will never cease to be amazed by๐ค๐ฆ.
28.10.2025 18:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Having given this adult hog the space and time she needed to successfully rear her 4 hoglets, as we stood nervously back, the five of them were, recently, released back to the area they came from, where they can continue to play an important part in saving their species๐ฆ.
26.10.2025 18:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Put your hands (wings) in the air if you're an adorable long-eared bat๐ฆ!ย
Spookily, the number of bat patients we admit always increases towards Halloween...๐. But the long-eared bat is probably the coolest we see, just look at those ears๐ฎ.
Shot and entangled, this heron had a lucky escape๐ฃ.ย
The irony for this poor heron is that if he hadn't become entangled in netting, it's unlikely he would have been caught to receive treatment for his leg injury.

A few weeks ago, we posted about how hedgehogs come in different sizes, well, here's a perfect example๐ฆ. These two are siblings, and we can certainly tell which is the runt. Weighing half the weight of his sister, he's got some catching up to do. We mean, he's not even grown into his ears, yet ๐ฅบ.
13.10.2025 17:01 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 3 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0No, this kestrel isn't sad about it being Monday, tomorrow, she's down in the dumps because she weighs much less than she should, especially going into the harsh winter months.ย With a slight swelling to the outside of her left eye, too, we got her started on some much-needed fluids and pain relief.
12.10.2025 17:02 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's not every day our vet team has to give a grass snake a warm bath, but that's exactly what the doctor (vet) ordered, to help rehydrate him.ย
Rescued by the RSPCA, after he was reported entangled in netting๐ฉ, the fly eggs on his body suggested he'd been there for a while๐ข.
Flashback Friday๐ฆ
Our last group of fox cubs has finally headed out to their release site, and it's giving us all the feels๐ฅน.
Just look how tiny they all were. 201 of them! That's how many cubs you have enabled us to take in, this year.

The swan rescued after she crash-landed into a tree, last week, is back with her partner and cygnet, and this could well be one of the most endearing releases... ever๐!ย
Watch โtil the end for her sweet welcome home dance๐ฅฐ.
How beautiful is this water rail? ๐คฉ This water rail was certainly grounded, when x-rays revealed a displaced coracoid (part of the scapula). This would have been causing significant pain for the bird when attempting flight.
07.10.2025 17:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Today, weโre celebrating one of Britainโs most iconic animals โ the badger! ๐ฆก๐
This year, our team has been busy caring for over 58 badgers, including 17 cubs, who arrived tiny and vulnerable without the protection of their mothers.
Under the warmth of a heat lamp, this young male is fighting to survive.ย
ย
Despite his condition, he is, incredibly, responding to stimuli, showing us the fighting spirit foxes are notorious for๐งก.
After almost three weeks in care, our RTA owl is now up for release๐ฅณ.ย
We like to think the amazing support you all sent his way, earlier this month, gave him his fighting spirit. You guys really do make all the difference๐ฅฐ.
Unfortunately, someone didn't give this swan the memo that she's a little too heavy to be trying to perch in trees...๐ซฃ
โฆwhich is exactly where she was found, trapped, after an obvious crash-landing.
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall, a true giant in the world of conservation.ย Her legacy of hope and empathy for all living beings has been carried into every corner of the globe and shaped generations of conservationists.
02.10.2025 11:30 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is not a happy chiffchaff chappie.
But we wouldn't be either, if we'd been inside a catโs mouth๐ฅ. Luckily for him, though, he hasn't sustained any injuries. Looking a little shocked about his ordeal, quite understandably, he'll be kept in for the next few days, for monitoring.
After being spotted out in daylight alongside her tiny hoglet, this pair were brought in to us. Sadly, mum was struggling to breathe and, despite our vet, Judith's, best efforts, she didnโt make it. Her little one, thankfully, is healthy and already showing a big appetite!
30.09.2025 17:03 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0These two were just a couple of weeks away from fledging, when they were targeted by a feline predator.
The pair will now have to remain with us whilst their injuries heal and we prepare them for the wild, again.
