exactly!

sounds more like a "surrender deal"

and for what? A security "guarantee" from Trump...

meanwhile china is hitting manufacturing out of the park. demolishing western energy industries with cheap renewables

The auto industry is next & IMHO is a dead man walking they just don't it know yet

& now trump has handed them: research, technical innovation, education and medical technology

Oh it's #CTD_AppreciationDay AGAIN!

My goto CTD for casual casts is the CastAway

here we are, returning from a glider deployment, training indigenous rangers to do CTD casts

So their routine water quality monitoring work can include profiles of temperature & Salinity on the Great Barrier Reef 🌊

i was in a quiet jurisdiction, like the attending personnel were happy to have a chat & a bit of a win. My experience may have been different if they were busy

Mine was lost & the COPS called ME!

I was like still making sure it was really lost? did i leave it at: home, car, IGA?

someone hands it in as lost property & it contains a "drivers licence" that's something us COPS know how to deal with

they literally called me while i was still looking

my USA grandpa. Who HAD a bear in the driveway, when he wasn't equipped to shoot, it realised. if someone wants to steal my TV, they have to first shoot me (in my bed ) then my wife, then steal my TV.

In Australia no one has guns if you wanna kill someone you need to cook them a beef wellington

i'm not promoting violence i just think the good guy with a gun is a fallacy. like the i have a gun to defend my family against bear attack is a fallacy.

i'm from Australia & IDK but isn't this what the second amendment right to bear arms was about?

As far as i understand " to protect states (via armed militia) against the tyranny of a federal armed force, through the arming of citizens.

ie: the good guy with a gun argument. where's the good guy?

i flew china eastern a few years ago the plane was brand new but it was like they ordered a 1980's Boeing 747. Complete with the pneumatic headphones and the nesting square melamine serving trays. i was half expecting to be seated in the smoking section...

aren't they, in this situation, scavengers? not predators

its quite weird you don't need to get it "right" just close to right. then the fan speeds up above the unhelpful resonance and all is good. (its like it just needs get over a hump and then its away ) if you have bluetack and a coin you can do it now

22.12.2025 11:25 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

ps if its bad you might need 20c

22.12.2025 11:10 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

single 10c piece bluetack . try it half way along each blade (on top) . once you find the best blade then try varying the radius closer to the edge or closer to the center . ( oh yes clean the fan first if its dusty)

Sting: 🎢 I can hear the old man laughing, "what use is a used up world and why could it be worth having"

i fear we are living the "big filter" hypothesis for the Fermi paradox

It's "musical chairs" the chairs are O&G assets and the players are O&G companies. As each "chair" falls the cost of production for the "market" drops (because expensive players are out) last man standing defines the future fossil price. Ie it will get harder for Renewable Energy but that's ok

Doug Webb, an oceanographer and innovator at WHOI, revolutionized how we explore the ocean.

Webb is best known as the inventor of the underwater glider, an autonomous vehicle that navigates the ocean by adjusting its internal buoyancy.

I love those early prophetic insights. Back in the early 2000s at my uni i went to a talk on renewable energy storage

The speaker said every household already has 3-4 days worth of energy storage ???

It's just tied up in the fuel of their car!

but when cars are electric...

its now called V2G

yes, thanks

that looks like it

Guess i'll have to keep looking for a bird orchid

We saw quite a few different orchids on a very enjoyable, short walk in the Jarrahdale. most of them were common favourites but i expect someone who has their "eye in" would have seen heaps more.

I think i saw one of those (or similar) unfortunately it was a little windy so hard to get a good shot (with by phone) from the angle i took the photo you cant really see the upper green bit but from memory it looked very similar (Jarrahdale , mundlimup timber trail)

you could drive to the coffee shop or cycle.

if you drive you need roads and car parking (at both ends) and petrol stations and ports and ...

if not for cars the coffee shop would be closer...

but we can consume less and maintain our "standard of living" by consuming more efficiently (much more efficiently in fact) its just that, currently, the agenda is controlled by those who profit from our wasteful energy habits. cycling is a great transport efficiency example

22.10.2025 10:22 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Still like that in far north Queensland. My colleague woke at 4:30 am in perth for a 6am flight. Connected in Brisbane then to Cairns (5pm) ahead of a 6am start to drive to weipa to deploy an ocean glider. While he was in transit our charter boat operator cancelled. I notified him on arrival....

ha ha you go to windfarms on holiday? I bet your partner loves that! I'm only saying because i do too. I went to a lovely enercon one in Austria and got to visit the "observation deck" an early enercon option that placed a doughnut shaped glass enclosed platform below the nacelle
