I am an engaged US citizen who follows news and politics. I have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. My views tend to be progressive but I’m not against, for example, tackling the national debt. #useAntitrustLawsToFightInflation

I am not able to attend this year largely on account of having a new job with less flexibility.

Personally, if I were able to attend #rareDC2025 I would use the opportunity to advocate for the protection of the Affordable Care Act (including insurance protections for pre-existing conditions).

Literally a sizable chunk of the wealth of (or wealth that would go to) our wealthiest citizens is needed to pay down the national debt. It is because of their meddling in government policy that the national debt is so high. Tax them. #taxOligarchs #taxTheRich #nationalDebt #USPolitics #Politics

There are also plenty of folks who don’t own Tesla stock (or much of great worth at all) but will fiercely defend the ultra wealthy for no discernible reason.

#BenWikler seems alright. I appreciate his efforts and his energy.

With that being said, #Democrats just lost an immensely important #election that may have negative implications for decades to come.

All the election money spent goes back to the rich media owners. It is a losing strategy.

Being diagnosed with a disorder is meant to serve a needed purpose. A diagnosis could offer someone treatment options, validation, or help others with understanding. Elon Musk is doing okay socially and otherwise. He is functioning fine and in-fact he has an outsized influence over our “democracy”.

Just someone who has an interest in #economics here. I haven’t dabbled much in global finance or trade but can’t help but wonder how #plannedObsolescence in the US has affected our #tradeDeficit .

Robert has been in this fight for a long time; he has given lots of warnings well before Trump was ever re-elected.

I aways hesitate to “like” posts that aren’t good news. There should be a “that’s a good point” button.

A chart depicting the relationship between productivity and a typical worker’s compensation from 1948 to 2014. From 1948 to 1974 the two metrics rose by similar percentages. From 1973 to 2014 productivity rose by 72.2% but hourly compensation only rose by 9.2%.

Many folks make that connection but fail to recognize the affect of #industryConsolidation . If we enforced antitrust laws we could control #inflation without needing high interest rates.

For folks who are activists or advocates for particular causes: now more than ever it takes an act of bravery to utilize social media for these purposes but without being public we may have no influence over the narrative. This is the perspective I’ve arrived at.

I’ve been suggesting to anyone who has a rare affliction and depends on insurance protections for pre-existing conditions that they should consider going to #RareDiseaseWeek that will be held in DC towards the end of February. It may be a last chance to advocate for the protection of the #ACA .

I suspect that some people voted for exactly this.

I didn’t put it in my bio but I have narcolepsy and anxiety. I support disability rights advocacy and realize how important it is.

I don’t know that narcolepsy or anxiety could be considered in this category but I agree with the sentiment.

If I may point out, the word ‘lazy’ is horribly ableist as well. If someone goes on a crusade against the ‘lazy’, they will trample folks with invisible disabilities.

A graph showing the unemployment rates of 10 simulations of a closed economic agent based model. The graph depicts this over a span of about 230 years. The maximum unemployment rate shown is about 28%.

My observation is most people want the simplest answer in regards to economics and the structure of the economy is more complex than they will accept.

Many folks also tend to use Micro principles alone as arguments for policy when Macroeconomics is needed for #policy decisions. #USPolitics

Ask #JeromePowell his opinion on potentially using #antitrust laws to fight #inflation .

I realize that this may be something he has no control over but it is not beyond me that raising #interestRates can hurt our most vulnerable residents the most.

I agree that you wouldn’t want to change your political opinion because of Trump. A broken clock is right twice a day.

If you are in a position that you are expecting to be relatively unburdened the next 4 years, please don’t forget about the many folk who are in a vulnerable position.

To many of us having low unemployment means having a job and hopefully job security.

To an #Oligarch cutting a few million jobs would mean a more desperate labor pool and cheaper labor. Watch and see how wealthy they make themselves.

I can’t tell which way you’d expect this to go because I expect Trump supporters to blame everyone else in the event of a recession.

12.11.2024 15:38 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Folks should prepare for Trump and his supporters to try and blame everyone else for an economic down turn.

People should also be mindful that our wealthiest billionaires have tended to increase their wealth during recent recessions.

Lots of people have a rare disease/affliction (there are many of them). If you know anyone who falls under this category that is afraid of losing their insurance protections for pre-existing conditions, tell them to consider going to #RareDiseaseWeek to advocate for protecting the #AffordableCareAct
